🏑 JUNIOR ELIMINATION FINAL RESULTS – J3/8 BOYS 🏑

At 9:45am, Mines and YMHC took to the field for what promised to be a blockbuster Elimination Final...and it certainly delivered!

Mines went into the clash as slight favourites based on their form throughout 2026, but once the whistle blew, that counted for very little.

Both teams came to play!

Mines initially had the better of the attacking exchanges, but YM stood tall at the back, repelling attempt after attempt and refusing to let Miners settle. Then YM kicked into gear, led by the super-talented Harrison ‘Harry’ Cresp. Harry was on a mission to drive his team forward, and after several chances went begging for the green, white and red, he decided to take matters into his own hands! Cresp threaded his way through the strong Mines defence, rolled onto the right-hand side of the circle and absolutely punished the ball into the bottom-left corner!

🔥 YMHC 1–0! The crowd erupted as YM drew first blood!

Mines responded quickly, with Lachlan ‘Lachie’ Hough stepping up to level the scores, but the momentum swung again when Cresp struck for a second time to give YM an unlikely 2–1 lead! YM had a sniff. They were leading against arguably one of the season’s most consistent teams, but were Mines going away quietly? Never!

Up stepped Caleb Treen, producing a barnstorming run of his own before finding the back of the old onion bag to send the sides into halftime locked at 2–2! We were in for a huge second half. With 24 minutes remaining, it really was anybody’s game, and we settled in for some mayhem! Mines eventually found another gear, with their leg speed beginning to prove difficult for the young YM outfit to contain. Treen again drove hard at the circle with eyes only for goal, converting to put The Big M’s little men ahead 3–2!

As we entered the final stanza, YM needed to summon everything they had to find an equaliser and keep their season alive. Instead, Mines piled on the pressure. Much of their attack began with Reuben Square from the back, before working through Hough and Treen further up the ground, forcing YM into counter-attacking hockey for much of the final quarter.

Hough’s relentless forward pressure was eventually rewarded with his second goal, stretching the margin and putting Mines within touching distance of the win. But he wasn’t finished! Hough found the old onion bag once more to complete a memorable afternoon and send Mines through with a hard-fought 5–2 victory!

👏 YMHC can hold their heads high. They took it right up to Mines and gave them a genuine scare at both 1–0 and 2–1, showing plenty of fight throughout the contest. YM were particularly well served by Harry Cresp, Hendrik English and Lewis Rothen, while Mines had outstanding performances from Caleb Treen, Lachie Hough and Reuben Square.

🔥 Mines march on to the decider, and those three names could well have a major say when the business end of the season continues this weekend!

🏑 JUNIOR ELIMINATION FINAL RESULTS – J3/8 GIRLS 🏑

A glorious morning greeted our juniors for yesterday’s Elimination Finals, with the J3/8 Girls taking to the field at 8:30am for a sudden-death clash between Norths and YMHC!

YMHC came out with a spring in their step and quickly made it clear they weren’t there just to make up the numbers — they came to play!

The game was end-to-end for much of the first half, before YM’s Paige Linton finally broke the deadlock to put her side in front.

That lead was short-lived though, with Halle Worthington weaving her way through the circle before coolly slotting home the equaliser for Norths!

At 1–1 deep into the fourth quarter, the dreaded Golden Goal overtime was looming large, with neither side able to find the breakthrough.

Then, with just 60 seconds remaining, Linton stepped up!

Picking up the ball down the right-hand side, she sliced her way through the Norths defence before coolly finding the bottom corner to put YMHC ahead 2–1 and send them through to the big dance!

Linton was well supported by Emma Needham and Makaydee, while Norths trio Halle Worthington, Briony Holdaway and Lily Scruth battled hard all morning in what a terrific contest between the two sides was.

👏 Congratulations to Norths on their season, while YMHC now advance to this weekend’s decider, where a strong CBC outfit awaits!

Morning all,

It can sometimes be confusing transitioning from watching senior hockey to junior hockey, so to help out, I am sharing below the Special Rules for our J3-8 Competition!

J3-8 Coaches must also be reminded that 'side-line coaches' can only move between the two 23m areas on the far side of the field. They may not enter the field of play, and should they wish to move behind the goals to assist on Penalty Corners, they must be behind the fence.

In addition to this, it is important for everyone to remember that we do stop time for injuries and alike during finals.

Time to break out the coloured zinc and hair ribbons, put on your loudest cheering voices, and may the hockey gods shine on your teams today! 😁

As the evening draws to a close we can reflect on this weekends crucial games of senior hockey!

Friday night saw the A1 Men do battle in the first 2 games of a double header weekend! Mines were sharp in accounting for Pegasus 7-1 in the 630pm time slot, and Norths 11 def YMHC 0 in the 800pm time slot, in what was a clinical display of A1 hockey. For Mines those were the desired results as it kept their finals hopes alive after creeping to within 2 points of 3rd place YM!

Today saw the A1 Mens games continue, with CBC 7 def Pegasus 1 in the 100pm time slot, with a few sore heads for the Collegians after they celebrated their season with their wind up last night...the A2 Men following at 230pm...Norths 3 def Mines 1 in what was a tight affair!

At 400pm the season defining game for Mines A1 Men was against arch rivals Norths. Mines went in without Johnathon Bates after he sustained that bad cut in last night's game, and key defender Luke Wakeman was also missing due to personal commitments. Mines grabbed a 1-0 lead and were looking up to the challenge, however a Norths deflection on a penalty corner saw them level the game at 1-1. The game was physical, and took its toll on all players, and it really could have gone either way, with both teams having chances. The deadlock was eventually broken with a Jake Prunster tomma to the bottom corner, seeing Norths take a 2-1 lead, and that is how the game would finish.

At 530pm the A2 Womens First Semi Final was played, with Pegasus 1 def the slightly more favoured Veterans 0 in another tight affair. Pegasus have come from 5th a week ago, to now find themselves playing in a Preliminary Final next weekend in the hope of playing in a GF!

At 700pm the Second Semi was played between Norths & CBC, two teams who have also built a wonderful rivalry over the years. The game was end to end for three quarters, with the first goal coming from a Norths Penalty Corner after the three quarter time siren! CBC werent done though, they hit back at the start of the final stanza to level the game at 1-1. In a tight tussel the game would eventually see CBC hold their composure and slot the winner with only minutes to go. CBC advance to 12 September's big dance, whilst Norths are left to lick their wounds, as they prepare to face Pegasus in next weekends Prelim!

Unfortunately Johnathon Bates sustained a nasty cut to his lip in his A1 Mens game and will be unable to umpire at 700pm tonight as he had to fly to Perth to repair the same. We have Vice President Nash Hunt stepping into his shoes, with the Tech Bench seat needing to filled through the afternoon. We wish Batesy well with his treatment in Perth today.

Clinton H***e is also a late scratching for the J38 Boys Elimination Final tomorrow, so Leium Brendan Bernhardt is stepping in to assist in that game, thanks Leium.

EGHA Management are pleased to announce the Umpires and Tech Bench Officials for this weekend's Finals!

We have also attached the Tie Breaker Outlines from the EGHA Bylaws to ensure there is no confusion on game day.
Here is a brief summary of the Bylaw:

1. If scores are level at full time - 2 × 7½-minute periods of extra time will be played.
2. Extra time is Golden Goal - meaning the first team to score wins.
3. If still tied after the full 15 minutes of extra time - One-on-one shootouts will commence.
4. Five (5) players from each team take alternate One-on-ones against the opposition GK, having only 8 seconds to score.
5. If still tied after five (5) each - sudden-death One-on-ones will continue, with equal attempts for each team, until a winner is determined!

🔥🏑 A1 & A2 MEN’S UPDATE 🏑🔥

As we reach the final weekend of regular season fixtures, there is plenty to be excited about...or, for some, perhaps a little anxious about!

A2 MEN

Norths secured the Minor Premiership some weeks ago, but that counted for absolutely nothing last weekend when a ferocious YMHC outfit handed them a 6-1 belting for their first loss of the season! 😳🔥

YMHC will enjoy the bye this weekend as they prepare for an Elimination Final against Mines next Saturday, with the winner earning the right to take on Norths in the Grand Final on 12 September.

Norths will take on Mines this weekend, while CBC and Pegasus round out the fixtures, with both sides playing for pride after missing out on the final three positions.

Norths will be looking to bounce back after last weekend's reality check, having accounted for Mines 8–3 in their previous meeting.

Mines, however, will be hoping to inflict a little more pain on the rampant Lions and perhaps catch them asleep at the wheel again before turning their attention to YMHC and sudden-death hockey!

And if the A2 Men taught us anything last weekend...what happened during the qualifying season won't mean much once September arrives!

🔥 A1 MEN – NOW THIS GETS INTERESTING! 🔥

There was a similar warning fired across the bow of the A1 competition recently, with CBC producing an impressive 3–1 victory over Norths, handing the previously undefeated ladder leaders their first loss of 2026 and reminding everyone that September certainly won't be a one-horse race!

Norths (35 points) have secured the Minor Premiership and direct passage to the Grand Final, while CBC (30 points) have locked away second position and will take their place in next weekend's sudden-death Elimination Final. But who they'll meet...that is still completely up for grabs!

YMHC (20 points) currently occupy third position, five points clear of Mines (15 points). The catch? YMHC have ONE game remaining & Mines have TWO. And the fixture gods have again delivered an absolute beauty to finish the season!

6:30pm – Mines v Pegasus Hockey Club Inc

For Mines, there is simply no room for error. A win keeps their season alive and puts the pressure straight back onto YMHC.

Then at 8:00pm...

For YM, the equation couldn't be much simpler:

BEAT NORTHS AND THEY'RE IN! 🏑🔥

Victory puts third position beyond Mines' reach and books YMHC a date with CBC in the Elimination Final. Anything less than a win though...and the door remains open for Mines! 👀

Even a draw may not be enough for YMHC, with Mines holding the stronger goal difference should they manage to win both of their remaining matches....and that's where things could get VERY interesting on Saturday...

1:00pm – Pegasus v CBC

And then, potentially with an entire season riding on 70 minutes of hockey...

4:00pm – MINES v NORTHS 😳🔥

If Mines take care of Pegasus on Friday night and YMHC fail to beat Norths immediately afterwards, Mines could walk onto the turf Saturday afternoon knowing their season and a place in September, is in their own hands! So forget trying to work through every possible permutation...here's all you really need to know:

YMHC get first crack....beat Norths Friday night and they're playing finals. If they don't...Mines are waiting!

And by Saturday afternoon, we'll finally know whether YMHC or Mines claims the final ticket to September.

🏑 A1 & A2 WOMEN’S UPDATE – FINALS ARE HERE! 🏑

The regular season is done and dusted, and for our senior women the business end of 2026 has arrived! 🔥

A2 WOMEN – SEMI-FINAL TIME!

Our A2 Women enjoyed a well-earned break last weekend in preparation for this Saturday’s First & Second Semi-Finals.

With six teams competing in the A2 Women’s competition, we revert to the traditional four-team finals series – and there was a stunning late twist in the race for fourth!

In a dramatic finish to the regular season, Pegasus leapfrogged Mines at the final hurdle to sn**ch fourth position and keep their 2026 premiership hopes alive! They now face Veterans in the sudden-death First Semi-Final – win and the dream continues, lose and it’s season over!

At the other end of the ladder, Norths finished the regular season on top and now meet one of their fiercest rivals of recent years, CBC, in the Second Semi-Final.

With the luxury of the double chance, the stakes are still enormous – the winner advances directly to the Grand Final, while the loser gets one more opportunity to fight their way there!

A1 WOMEN – ONE GAME FROM THE BIG DANCE!

Our A1 Women have a General Bye this weekend ahead of Friday week’s blockbuster Elimination Final.

For CBC, it’s an even longer wait!

After clearing out on top of the ladder and claiming yet another A1 Women’s Minor Premiership in 2026, CBC have earned themselves a direct passage through to the 12 September Grand Final. 🏆

They’ll no doubt keep the training intensity high as they wait to discover who will stand between them and another premiership!

And what a battle we have to decide their opponent…

🔥 MINES vs NORTHS 🔥

These two clubs have crossed swords countless times over the years, including in plenty of big finals, and there will be absolutely no love lost when they meet again!

Norths will take plenty of confidence from their recent 3–0 victory over Mines, but finals hockey is a different beast, and the experience of the navy blue & whites will be there when it matters most.

Mines will be looking to turn the tables and launch themselves into September glory, while Norths will be desperate to repeat their recent result and book themselves another crack at CBC.

The regular season has told us plenty.

Now it’s finals time, and this is where reputations are made! 🏑🔥
