We are getting quite a collection of lost property. Wondering where their shoes went? Possibly we have them. Please remember to take your shoes, and please check they are actually yours first.

Sincere condolences to Cheyne, family, and all at Australian Karate Academy for their loss. Bob was a huge influence on me during my formative karate years.

It is with very heavy hearts that the Australian Karate Academy shares the news that our founder, Bob McMahon, passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning, aged 75.

Bob was the founder of the Australian Karate Academy, a highly respected 7th Dan, and a man who dedicated more than 50 years of his life to karate and to the people he taught.

But Bob was much more than just a Sensei.

To so many, he was a teacher, mentor, role model, father figure, coach, harsh taskmaster when he needed to be, counsellor, and most importantly, a friend.

Over more than five decades, Bob had a profound influence on the lives of many thousands of students. For many, the lessons he taught went far beyond karate and stayed with them throughout their lives.

Above all else, Bob was a devoted family man. He was deeply loved by his wife Gayleen, his children Amy, Cheyne, Tegan and Louise, and his entire family.

His influence can be seen in generations of karateka, instructors and students, and his legacy will forever remain at the heart of the Australian Karate Academy.

We know there are many people whose lives were touched by Bob and who will feel this loss deeply.

Further information regarding Bob's Celebration of Life will be shared over the coming days.

For now, we ask that you keep Gayleen, Amy, Cheyne, Tegan, Louise and the McMahon family in your thoughts as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Bob Sensei. Your legacy will live on.

A smaller but no less enthusiastic group kitted up for sparring today. Great to see Ean getting out of his comfort zone, getting into the drills and doing a few rounds of kickboxing. Now that "The S Word" season is over, and you've got nothing to do Saturdays, why not come in and have a go?

A special congratulations to Chelsea who, at yesterdays grading, became the first ever student of ours to complete all junior levels and grade into the senior program (transition is otherwise automatic at age 14). An amazing effort from an extremely dedicated and talented student.

I understand many are still without power (weren't they fixing this four elections ago?). At present the lights are on in the dojo and classes are as normal today.
Also - the window has finally been replaced. It now looks like a door so please don't walk through it 😁

A small and relatively inexperienced group made their way over to Kalgoorlie Kickboxing: for their quarterly sparring day. Top work and congratulations to Ruben, Christian (guard up!! 😁), Aki, Baraka, and Luther. A very special mention to Patrick, for whom the event was his first ever sparring experience. Outstanding that you jumped in and had a go! Very special thanks to all the Kalgoorlie schools who attended for helping these guys where necessary. I sincerely hope I didn't forget anyone. Was supervising, which is also why I forgot to take photos.
These are regular events designed to promote interaction between our city's martial arts clubs. Hope to see you at the next one.

The broken front window has been removed and temporary boarding put up. Every effort has been made to remove any glass fragments, but for today only please leave footwear ON, removing before entering training area. This is just an extra precaution until a thorough clean can be arranged.
