Without a sub or keeper, our side succumbed to a slender 3-2 SFL defeat to minor premiers Cumbre despite a valiant effort.

First half, Cumbre were unlucky not to take the lead with Al Aseel Al Busaidi parrying a shot into the post, and our opponents rattling the crossbar. Athot Gurung opened the scoring 12 mins in when he was released on the left side, and toe poking a finish past an advancing goalkeeper. We conceded 2 goals at the end of the half, as fatigue played a factor. Lucas Soares’ clearance bounced off a Cumbre player into an empty goal, and a defensive lapse defending a corner was punished by our opponents.

Cumbre extended their advantage midway through the 2nd half after intercepting a loose ball in the middle. We quickly pulled it back to 3-2 with Athot Gurung’s tidy finish. Chances came for both sides after, our opponents forcing Al Aseel Al Busaidi to again parry a shot into the post, with Athot Gurung missing a great chance late on to complete his hatrick and pull us level.

Unfortunately, the result means we miss out on SFL finals following Curtin’s win over Fremantle in the game prior. We will now enjoy a break as we begin preparations for the summer season.

Tomorrow, we take on Cumbre in our final regular SFL fixture.

Our last 2 matches have put us in contention for finals with back to back wins, as Cumbre have only drawn once and won all their other games, securing first spot. We could finish as high as 3rd with a win, or drop to 5th if we lose, depending on the other result.

Last time we played Cumbre was at our home venue, being 4-0 down at half time and then losing 5-2. We are hoping for a different outcome tomorrow, as our opponents will want to retain their undefeated streak heading into finals.

Can we extend our winning streak to 3 games or will our opponents retain their undefeated run? Tomorrow we shall find out…

On Sunday, our side earned back to back SFL wins with a 5-2 victory over Fremantle.

First half, we raced into a 3-0 lead. Blair Johnston scored our first goal using a fake shot to dribble around the keeper and tap into an empty net. Aaron Lopresti scored our next 2 goals in the half with some precise runs.

Second half, we extended our advantage courtesy of a long Jason Madureira throw to Blair Johnston, laying the ball to Kyle Stan who then dribbled the keeper and squared back to Blair Johnston for a tap in. Kaedan Lawrance scored his first goal of the season to make it 5-0 with some good work on the left side and toe poke finish into the bottom corner. Our opponents scored 2 late consolation goals, the first from open play and the 2nd from a penalty.

The result leaves us 1 point behind our opponents on the ladder, with our finals prospects remaining in our own hands. We will focus on our final regular season match against Cumbre next week!

Last Sunday, our navy blue side earned a gutsy 4-2 win over Curtin.

Following a goalless first half, Blair Johnston was in top form in the second, scoring a hatrick to give us a 3-0 lead. The first two goals came from corner routines. Curtin pulled a goal back with a corner routine of their own. With 4 mins left, Lucas Soares picked up a red card and Curtin took full advantage, pulling back the deficit to 3-2. However, Athot Gurung scored his first goal of the season with a back post tap in late on to put the game to bed.

The result was our first win of the season, boosting our finals prospects as we leapfrogged our opponents into 4th!!

Tomorrow, we take on Fremantle in our round 9 SFL clash.

Last weekend, we earned an historic first SFL win in 5 years, and suitably it was at our home ground. The 4-2 win over Curtin lifted us off the foot of the league table.

Fremantle, on the other hand, have remained undefeated in their last 4 games and are in a good position to make finals.

Fremantle got the better of us in the reverse fixture, and we are looking for consecutive wins to solidify our finals prospects. Our opponents with any result will all but secure a top 3 finish.

Which side will reign supreme on the day? Tomorrow we shall find out…

Tomorrow, our navy blue side will host Curtin University in a crucial Round 8 clash in the State Futsal League.

It’s 4th versus 5th and both teams will be desperate for three points as the race for a finals position begins to heat up.

The last time these two sides met, it ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw. After falling behind 3-0, the Jets showed plenty of fight to claw their way back and secure a point in what was an entertaining contest from start to finish.

With both sides needing a win to keep their finals hopes alive, expect another closely fought battle.

Can the Jets turn last time’s comeback into a full three points? Or will Curtin University get one over the navy blue?

Tomorrow, we find out… 🔵⚽

Round 7 of the State Futsal League saw the Jets take on UWA at the Cumbre Sports Facility in what turned out to be an entertaining, end-to-end contest.

The Jets started brightly, linking up well and creating several early opportunities before Blair Johnston opened the scoring after some excellent combination play. UWA gradually worked their way back into the game, finding space and levelling the scores before Kyle Stan restored the Jets’ lead with a well-worked set play, finishing off a great ball from Blair. UWA again responded, and the teams headed into the break locked at 2-2.

The second half began with goalkeeper Jason Madureira producing a number of outstanding saves to deny UWA and keep the Jets in the contest. The Jets then regained the lead after winning possession high up the court, with Benz Tel filling the target role in the absence of Christopher Doukaki. Ben combined well with Lucas Soares before Lucas returned the favour with a perfect back-post ball for Benz to finish and make it 3-2.

Both sides continued to trade chances in an exciting, high-tempo encounter, with UWA again finding an equaliser. Athot was then rewarded for his hard work at training and in recent matches, arriving at the back post to give the Jets a 4-3 lead with just 10 minutes remaining.

Unfortunately, UWA lifted another gear late in the game. Despite Jason continuing to make important saves, UWA found two late goals to take the lead before adding a 10-metre penalty in the final minute after the Jets reached their foul limit. Jason managed to get a hand to the powerful strike, but it wasn’t enough to keep it out as UWA sealed a 6-4 victory.

It was another performance that showed plenty of positives, but one where the Jets were unable to turn periods of strong play into competition points.

The result leaves the Jets still searching for their first win of the season in fifth position. Attention now turns to next week’s crucial clash against fourth-placed Curtin University, with both sides looking to keep their finals hopes alive.

Tomorrow, our navy blue side will make the road trip to Cumbre Facility to take on UWA.

In our previous encounter, we were edged 3-2. UWA’s goalkeeper made 21 saves as we were left to rue many missed chances, also hitting the post late on.

Still yet to register a win this season, we are hoping to turn our fortunes around and give our finals prospects a boost. UWA will be looking to bounce back after a couple of heavy defeats following a solid start to the season.

This game will be a good test for our side. Can we get one over our opponents or will UWA complete the double over us? Tomorrow we shall find out…

On Sunday, an historic first ever SFL game was hosted at ECU Joondalup Sports Centre.

Both games hosted on the day proved successful, with great feedback provided from the SFL community!! For those who did thank you for your support!!

Unfortunately, the result didn’t go our way, suffering a 5-2 loss. A disappointing first half left us trailing 4-0 at the break despite creating great chances early on to open the scoring.

Second half was a big improvement. Lucas Soares and Blair Johnston pulled back goals within minutes to make it 4-2, and we were close to scoring a third. However, we were picked off late on after losing possession in the middle of the court. Despite some valiant defensive efforts to recover, Cumbre kept the attack alive and put the game beyond reach with their 5th goal.

We have a bye next weekend, and we have it all to do in the second half of the season.
