GPC Masters Nationals RECAP!
The Strength Institute athlete: Dusan Mills, M8, u82.5kg, Bench Only
He had three goals coming into this comp..
Goal 1: Break the current Australian record of 100kg that he set back in 2021
Goal 2: Get a competition pb (his best to date is 107.5kg.. the world record he set in Slovakia at Worlds 2022)
Goal 3: Break the new world record which currently stands at 115kg
We opened at 102.5kg which would break his old Australian record. “Bar is loaded” was called and as he started his set up on the bench, we realized they had MISLOADED the bar! I notified the officials and they reset the bar.. despite having to get psyched up for a second time in as many minutes, dad got 3 white lights and nailed the 102.5kg opener. ✅
Attempt 2 was 110kg. As dad laid down, he sat back up and had to kick his leg out with a small cramp.. he nailed the lift but had some nerve/muscular discomfort and during the lift adjusted his left foot. Unfortunately, lifting your foot at all (even just a cm or two) is a big no-no and dad was given 2 red lights for the technical infraction!! ❌
We repeated the 110kg for attempt 3 and it was the strongest lift to this point! 3 white lights and plenty of speed! Goal two of getting a comp pb was achieved and he pushed the new Australian record out even further! ✅
Normally this would end the day, but if you’re attempting a world record you get a fourth attempt! We loaded the bar to 115.5kg and dad gave it his best shot.. unfortunately he came up just a little short, not able to lock out the rep. If he was a little fresher and didn’t have to repeat the 110kg, it might have been there.. either way, we are both pumped with the result!
End result: 110kg bench, new Aussie record, new comp pb and the confidence to get after that world record in the future!

U64kg -
Event 1: Log Clean & Press
Megan - 92.5kg 🥈

With the way rising bar works, a lack of rest between each attempt meant we were all pretty gassed for our third and final attempts, but well done Clare on hitting that 60kg!!

Clare - 7 reps (130kg) 🥈

Lily - 14 seconds🥈
Clare - 18 seconds🥈

All strongwomen competitors pulled the same truck, so same weight for everybody but results were based on time. Huge congrats to Megan and Lily for taking out the first and second fastest time out of all strongwomen on the day!!!

Clare - 60kg, 70kg, 80kg, 90kg x2 🥇
Sophie - 50kg, 60kg, 70kg, 80kg x2 🥇
Big shoutout to Lily for nailing the 100kg stone, she’s only been training strongman for 2 months and this is a huge lift!! Lily, you should be proud 💪
Finally, Clare was tied with Zo by the end of the last event, which meant they had to face off in a gruelling tiebreaker - Last Woman Standing stone-over-bar. They both loaded 70kg over a 1.2m bar a whopping 20 TIMES before the officials realised they probably were never going to stop, so the weight was upped to 80kg...Clare fought HARD, and while she did come in 2nd her willpower and determination was incredible to watch.
We can proudly say Megan is once again WA’s Strongest Woman, and now The Strength Institute can claim the U64 title for 2024 too!!
Well done ladies 💪💪💪
