After quite some years the official closing of Dance HQ Perth has happened and although it was tough to say goodbye and let go, I can now begin to concentrate on my health and family.
Dance has and always will be a massive part of my life so I could never remove myself completely, but we all have to remember that even though the old saying goes "Once a dancer, always a dancer", we must not let our quest in chasing our dreams become an obsession in which you forfeit putting your health and family first.
There are many dedicated dancers, teachers and studio owners out there who fight to balance their personal lives with running a business, forging relationships, maintaining communication, harmony, helping others grow etc, all while trying to envisage their own dreams and fine tune them. Whilst our job seems like a walk in the park and can be very rewarding, it often presents many underlying challenges, tough decisions and stresses that very few people could actually handle on a day to day basis. Especially when we consider our students as our "adopted family" too. But when the balance is broken or heavily weighted, we have to step back and consider ourselves first in order to keep the dream alive, our health ain check and our family a priority.
We are your biggest advocates, your best friends, your light along the pathway to success, but we also need your love, understanding and respect so we can thrive and give you our very best efforts.
Thank you to all my amazing students and their families for this. It will never be totally over and I love you all to bits.
Miss A x

What an amazing finish to comps and Dance HQ Perth. After 11 long days we finished with a bang and celebrated our highest achievers at the awards night presentation. From receiving the outstanding reports from Tahlia, Adelaide and Marleys scholarship sections we were ecstatic to see them called up into the stage.
Marley Peters - Winner of the Junior Classical Scholarship and $1200
Adelaide Ainger - 12 years and Under Runner Up Age Aggregate
Marley Peters and Adelaide Ainger - MFOD Highest Scoring Neo Classical Duo/Trio of Any Age
Well done also to Tahlia for her outstanding effort in the Junior Theatrical Scholarship. She scored remarkably high and not everyone knows this, but Tahlia actually choreographed that amazing lyrical Solo (and her jazz solo) all on her own.
Great work girls... we are all so very proud of you and what you have achieved xo

I was overcome with tears tonight watching these 3 super talented girls perform in the Junior classical and theatrical scholarships. Undoubtedly the toughest decision the adjudicator will have to make There are no results tonight though, we will be back late tomorrow night to find out the final decisions! Good luck to Marley, Adelaide and Tahlia x I loved your performances so much! Xoxo

Adelaide was absolutely gorgeous in her classical solo this afternoon. This beautiful routine was choreographed by the wonderful Suzanne Arrigo she received 3rd place today x

An awesome 14u contemporary solo section today. So many cool concepts and styles. Marley performed a stunning classical contemporary and Tahlias titled "anxiety" was a bit of a random mix concept. But we loved that both routines suited each of them in their way. Well Tahlia on placing 2nd and Marley for 3rd xo

A round of applause for these 2 cheeky little crocodiles! Maple and Makenna had to rechoreograph their trio at the last minute when poor Evie broke her arm and was told by doctors not to dance 😥 They rehearsed as a trio with their beautiful friend Evie leading them for 2 terms then we had a 15 min lesson to change it to a duo. They watched their video and practices relentlessly with the changes then still had to compete in 10u (even though the 2 of them are actually 8u). I was very happy to see them awarded HM for their efforts in a super tough section.. I think they were just more ecstatic to still dance with each other. They had so much fun and smiled their hearts out. Well done girls xo

It's not completely over yet but tonight was the last time you will have seen all these girls dance together as Dance HQ. And what a wonderful way for them to end together. Our small group of 9 had an average age of 12 (that's right... half our troupe were 11 or 12 and only one 15 year old that bumped us into 16 years and under). Well, they competed against 7 other amazing lyrical troupes that towered over us. They threw their hearts and souls into it and received 3rd place! Proud is an understatement. These girls worked relentlessly for me on their technique and unison with the understanding that dancing up 1-2 age brackets and against some large troupes would not be easy. Despite the odds, they accomplished a place and proved that you can achieve anything you put your mind too and also... "good things really can come in small packages" lol. Well done beautiful girls, you deserve another round of applause 👏 and yes... you all finally broke my iron heart and made me cry 🥲

Congratulations to Marley, Tahlia and Adelaide this afternoon. These 3 girls danced so beautifully in the Intermediate Classical Improvisation. Well done Marley for placing 2nd. And again to Marley who then ran back on stage to dance her neo classical solo. She was absolutely divine! I was so impressed xo 1st place in the biggest open 14u Neo Solo sections I've seen!

My gorgeous Kate has battled with her nerves in this lyrical routine before but today she overcome them and shined on stage. She has been an exceptional student; hard working, diligent, thrives on corrections and is just an all round friendly and beautifully mannered little girl. I am so proud of her efforts to improve and it paid off today, receiving HM in another section of wonderfully talented kids. Thank you Miss Tash, Billie and Adelaide for coming to support her backstage x

Billie & Adelaide blew me away this morning with their 12u lyrical duo. They hadn't really rehearsed this routine much or performed it in a long time, but they pulled their "twin powers" together and danced one last time for me with everything they had. Their connection and emotion was so heart felt and they received 3rd place x

What a fun morning Tahlia and Isla thoroughly entertained us with their song and tap duo. It was super fun and they really played up to their characters (not to indifferent from their actual selves lol). Then they had their tap improv sections which had one of the hardest pieces of music I've ever heard in tap improv lol Both girl received 2nd in their duo and Isla got 1st in the improv with Tahlia 2nd. I'm so so proud of both of you xo luv ya girls
