Zanshin (残心)
Is a Japanese term that translates to
"remaining mind" or "lingering spirit".
It describes a state of total, relaxed
awareness and focus. You stay alert before,
during, and after you finish an action.

Zanshin is the sustained posture and sharp
mental focus kept right after landing a hit.
It ensures you are ready to react if an
opponent counterattacks, or if a situation
changes suddenly.

Beyond the strike zanshin is a continuous
flow an unbroken, continuous state of
engagement and readiness.

In karate, a kiai (気合)
is an explosive, focused shout
or exhalation made during a strike.
It translates to the "unification of energy"
(ki for energy/spirit, ai to join), aligning
physical power with mental intent.
