The Taketani Judo Academy is one of Melbourne's leading places to learn Judo. Taketani Judo Academy originated at the Malvern Health and Fitness Centre in 2013.

In November 2016, we opened our own full-time Judo Dojo in Oakleigh. In October 2018, after just 2 short years of incredible growth, we moved to our new state of the art Dojo just around the corner in Huntingdale. We have more than 70 junior members and 40 senior members. We currently have 14 medalists, 7 gold , 2 silver and 5 bronze, from the recent Australia National Judo Championships training

This year, we took a small team to the Adelaide International Open.

For Nadia, James, Taylor and Max D, this was their first interstate competition. They all gave it everything they had and did a great job showing what they have been working on in training.

In the U15 division, Michael and Rijker both faced bigger opponents and fought with great courage and determination. Rijker unfortunately fell short this time, while Michael came away with a well-deserved win.

Ji competed in the 66kg division and made great use of his variety of techniques and speed, earning bronze medals in both the Junior and Senior divisions.

A great effort from our small TJA team in Adelaide. Very proud of how everyone competed and represented the club.

Yesterday, we held our TJA Inter Club Competition at Taketani Judo Academy.

We were very happy to welcome more than 100 young Judoka, around 30 more competitors than at our previous event. Despite the cold Melbourne weather, the dojo was full of energy, excitement and great Judo throughout the day.

Most importantly, I am very happy and relieved that we were able to finish the competition safely without any serious injuries.

There are also a couple of things that I would like to apologise for.

With around 30 more competitors than our previous event, I underestimated how much additional time we would need. Unfortunately, we were not able to run the Randori session that we had planned after the matches. I am very sorry to the children who were looking forward to it.

We also had an issue with the Medal Presentation for one of the groups. Every child competed hard and deserved to have their effort properly recognised, so I am truly sorry that we did not get this right.

These are things we will learn from and improve for our next competition.

A huge thank you to all the Judoka who stepped onto the mat and gave their best, and to all the parents and coaches who came and supported them. Having more than 100 children together enjoying Judo made the dojo feel incredibly alive.

Finally, a very special thank you to all the TJA members, coaches and parents who helped us throughout the day. An event like this simply cannot happen without people willing to give their time and support behind the scenes.

Thank you to everyone who was part of the day. We hope this competition gave every young Judoka another positive experience and another reason to enjoy Judo.

We look forward to making the next TJA Inter Club Competition even better.

Yesterday, while Lily and Ji were competing at the Macau Junior Asian Cup, the rest of us were busy at the JVI Winter Competition.
Unfortunately, Lily fell short in her bronze medal match, but both Lily and Ji gave everything they had. I’m very proud of the effort, courage, and determination they showed on the mat.

To everyone who competed at the JVI Winter Competition, and to all the parents who supported the athletes throughout the day, thank you and well done. Your encouragement and support makes a huge difference.

A big thank you to our coach, Stuart, for coming along and supporting our members. I truly appreciate all your help.
