Next time you see a tagged item for sale at Recycled Recreation with the words 'repaired' or 'washed' when noted, it really is done by us!
There are real people 'behind the scenes' scrubbing packs, and hand washing down sleeping bags, fixing holes in Merino base layers, and jumpers, etc.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce Rory ๐ชก๐งต hard at work upstairs on the sewing machine ๐.
Rory has enthusiastically taken over a large part of this work at Recycled Recreation โค๏ธ
We genuinely believe items should be recycled โป๏ธ but also that they are presented in the best possible condition ready to be used again and again.
Thankyou.
Barbara and the team.

๐ง Antarctica madness today at Recycled Recreation...
Whilst visiting Tasmania from the USA for the Antarctic Festival,
Jonathan Chester just happened to find Recycled Recreation in Hobart.
He and film maker friend Michael Dillon were so excited to find our Antarctic book collection just waiting for them to pick over and find some gems ๐
Jon also took that opportunity to generously sign all our copies of his absolute classic books today at Recycled Recreation.
Thankyou Jon for all the enthusiastic comments and compliments ๐

Tickets are still available tonight at the State Cinema, for The Great White Whale.
I had the great privilege of meeting and chatting today at Recycled Recreation with Michael Dillon (right) about his film.
Don't miss it ๐ง

Authentic and genuine at Recycled Recreation! That is our name and we really believe in the whole process.
I find it difficult to tread the fine line between self promotion and what my upbringing calls ' blowing your own trumpet ๐.
But I find our customers are really surprised and impressed that when setting up RR we Recycled/re-purposed all our shop fittings and fixtures. Have a proper look next time you drop in ๐
Recycled Recreation has been trading for over 25 years. During that time we have seen some iconic Hobart outdoor businesses come and go, and so we took every opportunity to recycle our setup. There is history and here are some fun stories.
Our old famously squeaky change room, came from Peter at Jolly Swagman when he closed. It was squeaky then, is squeaky now ๐and is still going strong.โค๏ธ
Our Gorgeous wooden customer sales desk was locally made in Moonah from salvaged Tas Oak timber. A real feature of the shop, that we are proud of.
Our rear door is an 1840's antique Tasmanian Cedar special piece we purchased for that spot!
We purchased the entire shop fitout of Mountain Designs when they closed in Hobart...and used these to fitout our Canberra store AND Hobart shop too. See the solid grey metal and wood components of the clothes and display racks, plus the full height display cabinet.
When Snowgum closed, just up the road in Elizabeth St. (currently Red Herring) we acquired all sorts of small useful shop retail pieces including our gloves rack.
Paddy Pallin recently gifted us the Swivel stand on the desk used for the pocket knife display which is much used and appreciated.
All our lovely wooden coat hangers changed hands in what must have looked like a very dodgy deal ๐ from the sellers boxes in his QLD ute to our TAS plated car, in the carpark of Maccas in Fyshwick Canberra! We laughed so much, as I splashed the cash!
The staircase at the rear of our shop, is decked out in old re-purposed skis, from the Hobart tip-shop. These provide a bright cheerful back drop to our display space, and were cheaper than the wood alternative too!
From the bench seat, to the glass shelves, pictures on the wall and packing cases in the window, our stationary to the tags we use on every item, Recycled options as much as possible. It is usually successful, but maybe I would consider buying a new vacuum cleaner ๐คฃ we have been through rather a lot of secondhand ones!
It took longer to source and use recycled components, and it is an ongoing process of improvement, but we know it is worth it, even just for the memories and stories ๐
