1 year ago we were fighting for the 29er World Championship in Hong Kong!

Today we are 2nd (Max) and 5th (Lachie) heading into the second last day of the 2019 Australian 29er Nationals which we won last year!

A little over one year ago we competed in our first worlds in the USA!

From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in just over a week. Today we finished what will be in all likelihood our last ever regatta together in the 29er. We finished 2nd at the Youth Nationals, missing out on the Australian Youth Sailing Team qualification on a count back having won the Open Nationals.

We are absolutely gutted and despite fighting till the last leg of the last race we were well beaten by our training partners and great mates Henry and Miles, who were in the end just too good. Unfortunately we can only sit here now and kick ourselves for gear failure and in all honesty complacency at the start of the regatta.

We would like to thank our coaches Fletch and Harry, with a massive shoutout to Fletch, Tristan and Harry who managed to help us repair a snapped rudder pin on day 3 in about ten minutes between races, also to the Sly’s for providing their own spare rudder pin for us to use. A big thank you to our parents who have backed us the whole campaign and to everyone who has followed us here.

We are both unsure of what happens next but unfortunately we have grown too big to really consider trying to compete for another cycle. One things for sure, this hasn't broken us, whether its in another class or the 29er in a different pairing, we have unfinished business at this regatta and are hungrier than ever to succeed.

We will leave this page here for the time-being, who knows where we might end up in a few years time.

🥈 at the 2018 29er World Championship!

What a last day for us, moving from 6th to 2nd, proving that it’s never over till it’s over. We’ve experienced a lot of highs and a lot of lows over the last week but are super proud of our performance in testing conditions.

Our last day in particular, sailing in a gusty 15-25 knot westerly were we took a 1,2,12,1 scorecard in gold fleet including winning the last race of the regatta was pretty remarkable considering the caliber of this fleet. While it wasn’t enough to catch Fran and Jackson, who were definitely deserved winners, we won’t fret over the “what if’s” and focus on celebrating a pretty special result.

There’s a lot of people who without we never would have made it to this point. Firstly our parents, who have not only funded the majority of the trip but also looked after us in Hong Kong. Fletch back at home, who really has improved our sailing out of sight in the two years we’ve worked with him. Lizzi for originally getting us together as a team a little over two years ago and Dave who’s been a legend over the last year. Finally to Harry who not only has coached us the last 6 months but has also went above and beyond this week while chasing around 9 Australian boats in extreme conditions to give us the best chance of performing, not to mention that it’s his first worlds as a coach.

Finally we’d like to thank all our teammates for pushing us so hard at home and although some of them didn’t get the results they were looking for this regatta they’re all legends.

Now onto the Australian Youth Champs starting on the 11th back in Brisbane, the last stage of the Youth Worlds qualification for later in the year.

Worlds Day 5:

Tough day today after no racing yesterday, 25 knots plus made for a keep the mast upright type of race. With only one race completed before the breeze got too fresh we are pretty gutted having lead for the first half of the race before a rudder cavitation leading to a capsize near the gate started a downhill spiral which included an exploding jib snap shackle and another swim. We struggled our way through the fleet to finish 12th but it really wasn't what we were looking for having slipped to 6th overall with only one day to go. That said we are more determined than ever to fight to the last race tomorrow and give it everything we have.

Tricky, tricky day at the office today. A really gusty 4-10 knots out on the course today combined with low visibility made for a tough days racing. We are a touch unhappy with two bad races today but we took our first ever bullet at a worlds in race 7, today’s 18,2,1,12 qualifying us for gold fleet in 4th position. As only the qualifying rank carries forward tomorrow is almost like a new regatta for us, looking forward to fighting hard in gold fleet tomorrow in a forecasted 20+ knots!

Worlds Day 2:
After no racing yesterday on day one we finally got in a send in Hong Kong! Today we had 4 races in a gusty 20-30knots in some of the craziest conditions we have ever raced in. We stayed consistent and kept the points low with a 2,3,3,2 and sit in 2nd overall heading into the last day of qualifying tomorrow. Looking forward to getting out amongst it tomorrow!

National Champions!

It’s been a while since the last update but we’ve had a bit on since. 2 days ago we managed to wrap up what was actually our first ever regatta win, the Australian National Championship in Manly, Brisbane.

It was a extremely close 15 races and it came down to a winner takes all last race with our great mates and rivals Henry and Miles. We fought it out in somewhat of a match race to take the bullet in that race to win by just two points.

We are extremely proud of our achievement and would like to thank our coaches Harry and Fletch and our parents, who without we never even would’ve made the start line.

However we have no time to celebrate as we landed in Hong Kong for the Worlds yesterday afternoon and today are heading out to start preparing for the worlds starting in 3 days.

We greatly appreciate all the congratulations and support from everyone and will keep you posted!
