Last year we had four 29ers sailing and they had so much fun they stuck around for an extra day of training.

MEET THE FLEET:

Welcoming teams to the 2026 29er State Championships at Kingston Beach Sailing Club this coming weekend (28th Feb / 1st Mar)..

Jess and Huon

It's their first full season in the 29er and these two have been going from strength to strength. They trained really hard in the lead up to Nationals and it sure shows that they've got their boatwork together. Besides the 29er, Jess smashed out an awesome result at the Sabot nationals this year (6th place out of 43 boats) and Huon has been picking up extra Skiff-time by also campaigning a B14.

Isaac and Henry

These guys have been putting some serious training hours in, and it's paying off. They had a solid performance at the recent National Championships with their best race scoring a 3rd place, plus they just won the 29er division at the BYC Crown Series regatta. We're expected Isaac and Henry to be sailing at the top of their game as they are also preparing for the upcoming NSW Championships.

Jade and India

Fairly new to the class, Jade and India won't take long to get the hang of the 29er as they have been sailing as a team in other classes for several seasons already. Familiar faces around Kingston Beach, Jade and India will be sailing in home-waters. Earlier this season they won 1st Junior in the Mirror class for the second year running, despite losing their rig in the penultimate race.

James and Matt

This pair is a newly formed team and their boat is fairly new to Tasmanian waters. Both come with some serious racing experience though, so we could see a new front-runner contender here. James recently showed strong performances at both the Australian and Hong Kong National Championships.

Atlas and Rory

Recently returned from the Asian Championships (5th place) and then smashing out a strong performance at the Crown Series, Atlas and Rory will be sailing in peak form, plus they know a thing or two about Kingston Beach conditions. So long as the water doesn't go glassy, expect these guys to sail hard.

Arthur and Wellington

These brothers are very talented and experienced sailors who have come through the Tassie Sabot scene before progressing to the 29er. Arthur ranked 7th at this year's national Sabot championships. Arthur and Wellington have a few 29er regattas under their belt already, including the National Championships and the recent Crown Series. They are also sailing with a home-water advantage at Kingston Beach.
