At What Cost Will You Perform?
There’s a fine line between performing to win (against your intuition) & maintaining good mental health. The tide is turning… and the real winners are… those that are empowered to respectfully speak up when enough is enough… and those that witness this.
Can the Olympics Change How We Think About Mental Health? This year's Olympics is raising questions about the relationship between success and well-being.

COVID STRESS AND DISTRESS
During this prolonged period of COVID 19 external threat, we can suffer ongoing internal stress following the ongoing distress we hear about, see, feel and know about. We end up being in survival mode most of the time which can be quite tiring and health depleting.
Normally we would be able to connect with people face to face and hug to be helped along but the isolation and aloneness may prevent us from getting this in a way we most need it and for some can heighten distress even more.
This world is new for all of us. We can’t even stop to grieve the changes occurring and loss of much freedom due to having to keep alert to what’s happening everyday.
And unlike recovering from a past trauma in a safe world we are all living in an ongoing traumatic world environment everyday.
To add, working virtually with others on a screen requires focused attention which over time can drain our energy.
So what can we do?
Mind body activities are very helpful.
Notice what happens if you come to stillness for a few moments. Tune in to your body. If you’re okay to close your eyes, turn your focus inwards. Have curiosity about any body sensations, thoughts and feelings, without judgment. Just notice.
Take breaks from your screen. Give your eyes a rest. Get some fresh air and go for a walk to improve energy flow. Look up at the sky and into distance to counter balance that eye strain. Feel connected by seeing others while social distancing. Or walk with a friend.
Have self compassion for any exhaustion, anxiety, fear - embrace them as your body’s way of trying to help you adapt and survive to the threat and danger of the virus.
Be creative in how you calm your mind and body. Give yourself a hug. Wrap your arms around yourself and simply sway as you hug yourself. Tap the area where your heart is gently as you breathe calmly in and out. help us immensely to settle the mind and body
If you’re struggling and feeling quite wobbly please do reach out for help.
Check in on friends and family on a regular basis. Ask them if they are okay.
I’m doing zoom sessions covering all of the above with positive client feedback. Please take care with some extreme TLC to self.

Relationships are the foundation of our well-being. Feeling safe, valued and connected are human goals - from survival to thriving. Every one deserves this. What we think, say and do everyday role models to our children how they are to treat others. They copy. All lives matter!
Empathy: An essential life skill that the world desperately needs!
