In Tang Soo Do, each belt colour represents a season of growth and a step on your martial arts journey:

⚪ White Belt Winter ❄️
A clean beginning, like snow. The student is new, pure, and ready to learn.

🟠 Orange Belt - doesn’t represent any of the four seasons but was introduced in the 70's as a encouragement and stepping stone towards the next coloured belt

🟢 Green Belt Spring🌿
The plant grows strong and tall, representing progress and development in skill.

🔴 Red Belt Autumn / The Sun ☀️🔥
Red represents the sun’s power and energy. The student’s technique and spirit are strong, glowing like the sun but also must be controlled with discipline.

Each belt is not just a colour it’s a season and energy guiding you on the martial arts path. Every step matters.

🌌 Why Midnight Blue Instead of Black? 🌌

In Tang Soo Do, the highest belt is not black it is Midnight Blue.

Traditionally, black symbolises the end, perfection, or even a funeral. In Tang Soo Do, we believe there is no such thing as perfection, and the martial arts journey never truly ends. That’s why we wear Midnight Blue instead of black.

Midnight Blue represents a student who has:
• Reached a major milestone in their training
• Gained great knowledge and skill
• Proven discipline, spirit, and perseverance
• And yet continues to train, improve, and grow even stronger

It shows that even at this high level, there is always more to learn a true martial artist never stops becoming better for themselves.

🥋 Midnight Blue is not the end, but a new beginning.
