Hastings Football/ Netball Club
Are saddened to hear of the passing of Brian Stahl. OAM

To try to write about Brian’s service to Hastings and the wider western port and Mornington Peninsula community would take up quite a few pages of writing.
Brian his wife Bernice young family moved to Hastings in 1966, and like all new comers to country towns, decided to join the Hastings Football Club as a trainer .
Brian’s involvement at Hastings coincided with the biggest change in the History of both the Hastings Football and Cricket Clubs, when the foundations of the working Committee that was charged with trying to form the HCFSC or better known as the Hastings Club which was established in 1967.
And eventually in 1969 the first Committee of the Hastings Cricket and Football Social Club was established with Brian being one of 5he original Committee men .
Under these men Hastings went from a tin shed on the small oval to having club rooms the envy of every other club on the Peninsula

Brian was one of the men who oversaw many changes at Hastings , which included the original Social rooms that make up the majority of the Hastings Sports pavilion now, the Piping of the creek that now runs underground between the Sports pavilion and the Junior Football oval, the building of the main oval that the Seniors now use, as well as the Senior Change rooms .

And by far the biggest achievement was being the first country club in Victoria to receive a full liquor license , which in turn helped Hastings become one of the most successful Clubs in the last 50 years, something that would not have happened without the formation of the Hastings Club ,And people like Brian Stahl
And one of his saddest days was when the Club closed last year .

Brian was involved in countless community projects , and was awarded citizen of the year in the 2004 Queens Birthday Honours
Brian held positions at the Hastings Club as President , was a Committee man for around 30 years, and ran the Club as Manager in the 1980,s.
Brian also served on the Hastings Shire Council and was Mayor of the council in 1992 when Hastings won the Premiership, with Brian in his role as Mayor entertaining the players in the Shire offices during the celebrations .

Through all Brian’s work for the wider Hastings community he was well supported by his loving wife Bernice, and sadly when Bernice passed away in 2014, it was an extremity difficult time for Brian and his family.

Brian received the highest honour that Australia can award when he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for outstanding service to the community .

People like Brian a very rare , Brian’s sense of helping the community was huge, and there would not be any organisation in Hastings and surrounding towns that have not had some form of help and support for their various causes .

Brian recently was honoured by the MPSC for service to the community only a couple of weeks ago, when asked about why he contributed so much to community and especially to Hastings , he answered .

When you work and live in a town like Hastings, the least you can do in your life, is to give back to the community.

Rest In Peace Brian
Thank you for so much you have done for the HFNC.
You will be truly missed
Sincere condolences to
Cath, Gab Justin
and extended family’s
