🏋🤸♀️🚴Our movement menu is designed to showcase a range of different opportunities to be active in our local area.
On the menu this month is the free outdoor seniors exercise park right in our own back yard at the Hastings foreshore. The exercise park features a range of equipment aimed at challenging balance, flexibility, coordination and strength, and has an all-ages mobile phone app to help learn to use the equipment independently.
The Mornington Peninsula Shire also has volunteers that offer free “come and try” sessions on Friday mornings at 10am.

🚨 Inspiring Story Alert 🚨
We are always inspired by what people can do, and by celebrating their achievements we hope you will be too!
This month we want to share a success story of two of our very own clients – Bri and Kyle.
Bri lives with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) affecting her knee, and Kyle lives with persistent back pain, both of which significantly impact their day-to-day life. Both Bri and Kyle have been working with our team over a period of time to improve their mobility, strength, and confidence in movement while building their skills to manage pain flare ups and setbacks, as they are both eager to adventure and refuse to let their pain limit their lives.
Last weekend, Bri & Kyle completed the 4 km walk event at the Chevron City to Surf in Karratha, WA – a huge milestone for both of them! This achievement is great reminder that rehabilitation and recovery isn't only about reducing pain – but about working towards meaningful goals, staying active in ways that matter to you, and regaining the confidence and ability to take on challenges.
We are incredibly proud of Bri and Kyle for all their hard work, for stepping outside their comfort zone and for achieving a meaningful goal that they had set themselves.

🧪🎓✏️Our August Science Snapshot - for National Stroke Week:
Short bursts of intense exercise improves aerobic fitness in stroke survivors.
A 2024 study examined the effects of 12 weeks of aerobic exercise training on aerobic fitness in stroke survivors. They compared high-intensity interval training (HIIT) against moderate intensity continuous training (MICT), to see the effects on peak oxygen consumption, a measure of aerobic fitness.
While both groups demonstrated fitness improvements after 12 weeks, the HIIT showed larger improvements. Given that many stroke survivors fatigue quickly and struggle to sustain continuous exercise post-stroke, this finding shows that HIIT is a viable alternative that may even have superior benefits.

This week is National Stroke Week, raising awareness of the early warning signs of a stroke.
The F.A.S.T. test for stroke involves looking for these simple signs:
FACE – check their face. Has their mouth drooped?
ARMS – can they lift both arms?
SPEECH – is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?
TIME – is critical. If you see any of these signs call 000 straight away.

🚨 Inspiring Story Alert 🚨
We are always inspired by what people can do, and by celebrating their achievements we hope you will be too!
This month’s inspiring story is 18 year old Bianca Adler, the youngest Australian in history to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
Bianca was forced to abandon her first climb attempt last year with only 400m to go due to frostbite concerns and severely dangerous weather conditions. But her perseverance, tenacity and relentlessness to achieve her goal saw Bianca complete the 65km trek to base camp and the physically and mentally grueling 20km climb to the peak, reaching an incredible elevation of 8848.86 meters above sea level, on May 20, 2026.
Bianca is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when we show determination, persistence and a desire to challenge our limits.

🧪🎓✏️Our July Science Snapshot:
A 5min Movement Break Can Reduce The Impact of Prolonged Sitting
A large study of more than 19,000 adults found that taking a simple 5-minute walking break every hour can help to counteract some of the negative effects of prolonged sitting. In this study, people who regularly got up and moved reported better mood, less fatigue, and more energy—without any drop in work productivity.
The takeaway is surprisingly simple: If you spend most of your day sitting, the evidence suggests that moving a little, often, may be more powerful than you think.
Some ideas to try may even be a walking lunch break or phone call with a loved one.
