🙌🥳 CONGRATULATIONS to our HBA athletes who have been selected for the Basketball Victoria Gold Nugget Camp! 🏀

Country Victorian athletes have been selected from their Basketball Victoria Performance Pathways hubs and sub hubs across regional Victoria to attend the 2026 Gold Nugget Camp.

Up for grabs is selection into teams that will play in the 2027 Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup (ACJBC) which is held in Albury every January or the 2027 Southern Cross Challenge (SCC) which will be held at the State Basketball Centre also in January.

It is one of the first experiences our young athletes will have at the performance pathway levels to meet and compete against the best in their age group from all over regional Victoria.

Several Victorian stars that have gone on to represent Australia including Dyson Daniels, Jack White, Tessa Lavey, Maddie Garrick, Jade Melbourne, Jaz Shelley and Matthew Dellavedova have attended these country pathway camps as part of the start of their basketball journey.

2027 U20 State Team Trial expression of interest & a new pathway opening for Victoria’s emerging talent!

EOIs are now open for athletes born in 2008 and 2009 to trial for the 2027 Victorian Under-20 State Teams. This is your opportunity to develop your game, challenge yourself and take the next step in the Victorian pathway.

For the first time, athletes born in 2009 can be considered for Basketball Victoria’s new U19 State Development Program designed to bridge the gap between junior and senior basketball.

Today HBA celebrate the remarkable achievement of one of our members, Tony McDonald. Tonight, Tony will take to the court for the very last time, calling retirement on his 50 YEAR playing career with HBA!

Tony first began playing in U16s in 1975! He played Senior basketball from 1979 and was part of the very first Minders Mens team. Tony played Division 1 for approximately 10 years. He represented Hamilton in the Country Championships and Glenelg Games. The past few years he has played Division 3 for Minders and most recently, Coasters. Tony won a Grand Final MVP in Division 3 at 55 years old! An absolutely outstanding achievement!

Tony credits the longevity of his playing career to some advice he received from Mal Eales, ‘ A big bloke has to be able to shoot foul shots, so work on them!’ Tony has spent time on his foul shots ever since and says it’s probably the main thing that kept him in the game for so long.

Congratulations on a wonderful career Tony! Enjoy your last game tonight Thank-you for being a part of the Hamilton Basketball Community for the past 50years!
