"Back" in action. After 5 weeks off the bike due to fractured vertebrae and rib, it’s great to be back on “light duties” - the perfect first ride back on a freshly revamped track with good people 👌

Victory Heights Jumps Line Update

A huge amount of volunteer time and effort has gone into making this happen and the first half of the jumps line is now officially open! Thanks to everybody who stayed off it during construction, its come together amazingly well.

The second half of the right-hand line remains a work in progress, however the left-hand line is open all the way to the bottom.

The first gap onto the platform is intentionally a “squirrel catcher”, it’s designed to ensure riders have the skills and commitment required for the features that follow……. Please remember this is an advanced trail. Pre-ride, re-ride, then free-ride.

While we have installed a lockable gate to close the trail during wet weather (it will shut regularly, especially while the work is soft and new). Please use common sense and stay off the trail whenever it’s wet or soft, regardless of whether the gate is locked. Jump trails are particularly susceptible to damage and a few riders can undo months of volunteer work very quickly.

A thank you to Ken West for the edit he has made of the trail below (and the park in general)

Trail 7 is mid makeover…. Just a refresh of the existing trail and drainage. But its been a few years since this trail has had a rebuild so it will be riding a lot better soon 🤙

Thanks to all the volunteers who have dropped past and helped 😀

There’s proposed e-bike legislation currently under review in Queensland that could have some serious but presumably unintended consequences for mountain bike riding.

As it stands, the proposal applies a blanket 10 km/h speed limit to all shared paths for ALL e-bikes, including fully compliant e MTB's — and the definition appears broad enough to include many off-road trails where pedestrians may reasonably be present.

While this doesn’t impact analogue bikes, it could effectively limit eMTBs to 10 km/h on these trails — making them impractical to ride on any trails or networks considered shared use.

It also removes the ability for kids under 16 to ride eMTBs at all on any trail, even under parent supervision, as there is no supervised use exemption for under 16 riders for any type of eBike.

In simple terms — it doesn’t ban eMTBs outright, but it makes them very difficult to use in any meaningful way on most shared trail networks.

If you don't, (or do, I guess) want this to happen have your say during the public consultation period

Got out to continue work on Track 7 today. Unfortunately, a good chunk of the time that was meant to go into new work ended up being spent fixing damage to last weeks work that occurred yesterday after a few geniuses decided the trails looked useable despite many tracks resembling creeks.

We had reopened the trails on Friday and, to everyone’s credit, almost all of them were still in surprisingly good condition at that point given the rain of the previous few days. Apart from the odd person who seems to believe they exist entirely outside the concept of society, most people did the right thing and stayed off them. This ment soft sections of trail didnt get tire or foot prints in them that hold water and create mud holes, so the trails dried well and firmed up quickly.

Then we got much heavier rain Friday night and early Saturday than expected.

Apparently the presence of an open gate was interpreted by some as a green light, despite the trails very obviously being far too wet to use. As a result, we now have fresh damage to jump lines, new trail work, and parts of the walking/running/access track network that just didnt need to occur.

This isn’t the kind of damage that gets fixed next weekend, especially on the jumps lines. It’ll sit there, hold water, soften the trail base, and ultimately mean longer closures for everyone.

For the love of God: if it’s wet, stay off the tracks.

Volunteers shouldn’t have to sprint out every time it rains just to slam the gates shut to stop people making terrible decisions.

One of the residents out for a stroll on the 3km/5km loop this morning.
Koala's do spend a considerable amount of time on the ground, travelling between food trees, safe resting places, and looking for a mate.
This is one reason why ALL DOGS must be restrained by a short lead, if you want to bring them into the trails. The other reason is respect. To avoid your dog getting in the way of other trail users and either injuring them or your dog.

Pop Gun…… about two months ago we spent a weekend rebuilding pop gun. Opening was delayed for months as it just refused to rain (and we had to repair the trail after some clown took it upon themselves to open the trail by pulling bunting down, removing signs and logs from the track).
Anyway the trail has been open for a couple of weeks and running well now, so enjoy!

As always these trails are built and maintained by a small group of volunteers…. We would love more…. Just message the page and we can add you to our chat group and you can come an help at times that suit you….. otherwise if you can’t donate time, cash donations are always greatly appreciated and can be left in the collection pole at the front gate!
