Golden Grove Football Club

Golden Grove Football Club The official page of the Golden Grove Football Club. The Golden Grove Football Club, known as the Kookaburra’s was founded in 1995.

The club is based at the Harper’s Field Oval, which is situated on One Tree Hill Road in the Northern Suburbs of Adelaide. Many people wonder why the ground is called Harper’s Field, it is named after James Little Harper and Robert Emslie Harperfrom the 52nd Australian Infantry Battalion. At the time of our foundation we were able to field a number of junior sides, which played in the then North Adelaide Junior Football competition. Although Greenwith Oval was then the home ground a number of games were played at Hargreaves Oval. The club had limited facilities and hired the Greenwith Community Centre to run a match day canteen and evening presentations. After two positive years a number of committee members sent a proposal to the SAAFL outlining the clubs intention to set up a senior club. Senior football commenced in 1997. The club was entered into Division 7 of the SAAFL competition and played its first full season at senior level in 1997. The club gained promotion in its first season and appointed John Economou as our inaugral senior coach. The club remained in Division 6 until its Premiership season in 2003. in 2020 we achieved premierships in Div 3 and 3R. in 2021 we will field 5 senior mens, 2 senior womens and 33 boys & girls junior teams.

Golden Grove Football Club welcomes Lewis Johnston as Senior Coach for Season 2027.

Lewis Johnston's football journey began in South Australia through the North Adelaide pathway, with his talent recognised early, earning All-Australian honours at the 2008 AFL Under-18 Championships before being drafted by the Sydney Swans with Pick 12.

He went on to play AFL with the Swans and Adelaide, before an accomplished SANFL career. Returning to local football, Lewis became a key part of the Golden Grove playing group, contributing to multiple premierships and earning selection in the 2024 Adelaide Footy League Men's Team of the Year.

Since then, Lewis has built his coaching credentials as Assistant Coach with the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles and North Adelaide Roosters, gaining valuable exposure to senior environments and developing his understanding of player development, game planning and leadership.

His AFL and SANFL experience, combined with his history at Golden Grove and coaching background, make him a strong fit to lead the Kookaburras forward.

This isn't just a new coach, it's a former player returning to lead the club he helped to Division 1. Welcome back, Lewis!

GGFC | SENIOR COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT

Golden Grove Football Club wishes to announce that Craig Smith has concluded his tenure as Senior Coach of the Golden Grove Football Club.

Craig’s decision follows careful consideration of the significant time, commitment and personal demands associated with leading a senior football program. Coaching at senior level requires an enormous investment both on and away from game day, and Craig has made the decision that stepping away from the role is the right decision for himself.

The Golden Grove Football Club sincerely thanks Craig for his contribution, leadership and commitment to the Kookaburras. His professionalism, dedication and investment in the playing group and broader football program have been greatly valued by the club.

We wish Craig all the very best for the future and thank him for his service to Golden Grove Football Club.
