Mondays by far are the most booked out day of the week in the studio and I can certainly understand why! There’s something lovely about starting the week off well. A bit of exercise, stretching and talking about nutrition always sets the tone for the week!

Something I’ve noticed working in this industry as a personal trainer is that we don’t talk enough about neurodivergence and fitness. The fitness industry has always had such a big focus on ‘no excuses’ and that ‘no pain, no gain’ mentality.

I work with many women with ADHD and autism, and sometimes the biggest barrier to exercise isn’t motivation, knowledge or even time… it’s everything that comes with actually getting there and staying in it.

For someone with ADHD for example, it might be:

•Knowing you want to exercise but feeling too overwhelmed about how to get started.

•Having loads of motivation one week and almost none the next.

•Finding repetitive workouts incredibly boring.

•Feeling overwhelmed by your schedule, a complicated program or too many decisions.

•Missing one session and feeling like you’ve completely fallen off track.

And for someone with AUTISM, the gym environment itself can be a barrier:

•Lots of people moving around you.

•Loud music, conversations and equipment noises.

•Bright lighting and lots of visual stimulation.

•Not knowing what you’re supposed to do or where you’re supposed to go.

•Feeling uncomfortable or self-conscious exercising around other people.

•Changes to your expected routine being much harder to manage.

And sometimes there can be overlap between the two. But the important thing is that none of this means someone doesn’t want to exercise. It doesn’t mean they’re lazy, nor does it mean they need someone telling them to “just be more disciplined.”

Sometimes we need to stop asking “Why can’t you stick to a normal fitness routine?” And start asking “What would make fitness feel achievable for YOU?”

Perhaps that means a quiet training environment, or knowing exactly what you’re going to do before you arrive. Maybe it means shorter sessions or having some variety so you don’t get bored. Or maybe it means removing as many decisions as possible, reducing lighting or having someone there who understands that some days will look different from others.

Fitness shouldn’t be something you constantly have to fight yourself to do. It should be something that can be adapted to you. ❤️

🍫 THE EVERYTHING CLUSTER 🥜

I decided to make some oat, seed & nut bites today to use as snacks during the week and these were a winner!

It’s pretty much one of those recipes where you just throw everything in a bowl, mix and whack it in the oven. These were the ingredients I used but you absolutely don’t need to use this many. These were just things I already had in the cupboard and thought why not!

Ingredients:
2 cups of oats rolled oats
1/4 cup of pepitas
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup linseed
2 table spoons on chia seeds
2 tablespoons of sesame seeds
Handful of cranberries and/or sultanans
Handful of dark chocolate
Handful of walnuts
Handful of macadamias
10 chopped dates
Pinch of salt
Dash of vanilla essence
1/2 cup of coconut oil
1/2 cup of golden syrup or honey

Mix all the dry ingredients together, then add the wet ingredients to a bowl, mix and pour in to the dry ingredients. Combine well and then pat the mixture firm onto a tray lined with baking paper. Bake at 160 for 25min then let it cool for 1 hour before breaking into pieces.

One of my clients was at her pole dancing session recently when she received a compliment on her back muscles. 🥹

THIS is why we train.

Not for the number on the scales.
Not for how our clothes fit.
Not for a before-and-after photo.

But for those moments when you suddenly realise “Holy crap… I’ve actually built muscle.”

The back is an area that can be easy to overlook when it comes to women’s training, but building those back and shoulder muscles makes such a difference…not only aesthetically, but for strength, posture, stability and being able to do the things you enjoy.

And pole dancing is a pretty damn good way to put that strength to the test!

She’s been consistently putting in the work, and now other people are noticing the result of it too.

You don’t always see the changes happening when you look at yourself every day. Sometimes someone else has to point them out. ❤️

My client Jordan smashing out her workout this week! It was a good one!

Jordan is also a police officer… and after seeing her kicks, I definitely don’t want to get on her bad side! She’s got some mean strength! 🏋️‍♀️

Just popping up to prove I haven’t disappeared!

Life lately has looked a little like this…

🏋🏼‍♀️ Personal trainer
👧 Mum
🧦 Professional finder of missing socks
🧑‍🍳 Chef
🔨 House renovator
🧼 Cleaner
🤝Negotiator of peace treaties with a 5 year old
🤷🏼‍♀️ Constantly wondering why I walked into a room.
🤕In recovery from emotional manipulation (by my 5 year old 😩)

If I’ve been a little quiet on socials, now you know why! 😂

Life’s a little chaotic at the moment, but that’s okay. I’m still here day in and day out, training clients and helping them navigate life! Health and fitness has never been about having a perfect routine. It’s about showing up, even when life is messy.

Now… if anyone knows where all the odd socks disappear to, I’m accepting theories. 🧦😂

A little business update ❤️

After a lot of thought, and with the new financial year approaching, I’ll be making a small adjustment to my session prices from Monday 29th June.

Over the past 9 years, I’ve never increased my prices. Through COVID, rising interest rates, cost of living pressures and everything in between, I’ve worked hard to keep personal training as affordable as possible, because I know how important it is to have support without it becoming another financial stress.

Rather than increasing prices over the years, I chose to grow my business by taking on more clients. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m so grateful for the trust you’ve all placed in me.

The reality now is that my schedule is very full, and as many of you know, I’m also navigating the juggle of running a business while being a single mum with a daughter now in school. I’ve reached a point where I need to create a little more balance for both of us, and make sure the business remains sustainable long-term.

Because of that, session prices will increase by $5 per session from Monday:

• 30-minute sessions: $30 → $35
• 45-minute sessions: $40 → $45

For anyone who currently has prepaid sessions, account credit, or purchased the winter special, don’t worry, those sessions will remain exactly as purchased. The new pricing will only apply to future purchases as of the 29th June, once your existing credit has been used.

This wasn’t a decision I made lightly, but after 9 years without a price increase, I feel it’s the right time.

Thank you to every single person who has supported my business over the years. Whether you’ve been with me for months or years, I genuinely appreciate being part of your health and fitness journey, and I’m looking forward to helping you continue reaching your goals.

Nicole 💪❤️
