A blurb I was asked to write. I post it here because I get asked a fair bit.

Phoenix Arts is offering three different classes covering three different disciplines - for the price of one.
We have a class that focuses on the more traditional aspects of martial arts; forms, two person sequences, co-ordination, fitness and strong body mechanics. Our self-defence class focuses on real world self-defence that you can use now, rather than later; our training starts at a place where the situation is worse case scenario - do what you've got to do to survive that encounter. This term we'll be adding some knife work into training as well. Training incorporates unscripted self defence situations where you get to utilise the skills that you've been learning in a dynamic situation.
The third class is sword work. Phoenix Arts teaches the art of the sword through solo (Forms and drills) and two person work (both set and unscripted). The training blends structured content for developing a strong foundation as well as the ability to then utilise your skills freely in a controlled environment.
All classes are suitable for beginners. However, for those who have experience in martial arts it's good to know that training with Phoenix Arts is self-progressive. If you can show that you meet the criteria we won’t hold you back from the next part of the curriculum.

3 reasons to do martial arts as an adult
1. You get to feed that inner child of yours. Swords, ninja outfits* and learning “cool” things
2. You’ll acquire practical self-defence tools to help give you confidence in tricky situations.
3. All the physical and mental health benefits that go with moving your body, learning new skills and engaging with others who have a similar interest.
So, here’s an invitation to come and try one of our classes out for free. They run at Pacific Pines Community Center on Monday and Runaway Bay Community Center on Wednesday. You can book a spot by either calling 0452 387 392 or emailing [email protected]
*Our uniforms are black so you’ll have to explain to said inner child that we don’t teach Ninjutsu.
For those of you who like certain details straight up: classes are $35 per week paid weekly or fortnightly. That gets you access to all three. Or you can pay for the term up front (Can be split into two payments) and it works out to $25 per week. We’ve got a special on at the moment too that includes training and uniform plus training sword.
