We’re about a month away from what used to be the time of the year the King of Burleigh Hill race was held, and I was looking at a couple of the carts I built in 2018/2019.

Both shopping trolleys were built in the space of a few weeks, using hand tools & the cheapest materials possible, one trolley sourced from a creek & one found dumped in a carpark already cut apart.

They looked hilarious, were quite the tight squeeze for those riding them & we even managed to rope one of the radio hosts for 92.5 GoldFm into racing with it.

They definitely did not stand the test of time, as they were both retired after the 2019 race, and have been rotting away ever since.

Have been thinking about getting at least one of these carts up to the standards of the races we go to, I definitely have the time, money and equipment needed to finally do it right and build them to be competitive.

If anyone is looking for a cheap project cart I’d certainly recommend a trolley.

Located in Bangalow, so would be great for a local looking to have a crack at next years race.

2026 Murphy's Creek Escape Billy Cart Bush Bash!

Looks like an amazing first event organised by Murphys Creek Escape! A very long & exciting track.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it out for the event, however Jason & Lincoln were able to make the trip out with their Sonic cart and went extremely well!

Celebrating the 10th year of the Gold Coast Billy Cart Club on Facebook! Thank you for your continuing support. From the beginning at King of Burleigh Hill to the Red Bull Bill Cart Derby, and every regional town’s event since we’ve well and truly grown larger than I could have expected back in 2016 when I created this page for a high school assignment!

Whilst I haven’t had a chance to get out to any of the latest races, I was able to enter quite a few Billy Cart photos into our local Agricultural Show, receiving a couple of awards as a result.

It’s always great to capture photos at each of the events I go to, from the early raceday morning monotone shot of the road down Mt Pappinbarra where the Beechwood Billycart Classic is held, to photos both on and off track at Bangalow and Greenmount, it’s certainly a very photogenic hobby to take part in.

Heads up for anyone interested in having a crack at a brand new Billy Cart Derby!

Murphy's Creek Escape is hosting a Billy Cart Bash on August 22nd for the first time, bringing a new event to the Lockyer/Toowoomba Region which is aiming to raise funds for Wildlife Rescue, Rehab and Education.

The rules/specifications are similar to both the Gatton & Greenmount events, with plenty of categories to enter! (PDF available on their website)

They’re hoping to get enough online entries to be sure that the event can go ahead, so if you’ve got a cart that’s been sitting in the shed since the last race at Gatton, or you want a chance to race a cart that you’ve been building for Greenmount be sure to enter now so that this event can go ahead!
