It's cold and flu season and we had a few riders struck down by the dreaded lurgies, along with someone else with a mechanical (or an uncharged e-bike anyway), so our numbers wer e a bit light for Saturday's ride.

It didn't stop us from having a bunch of fun exploring trails and getting our fitness up at the same time - Monique and I had to work hard to keep up with the e-bikes!

I haven't had a chance to post the next batch of rides here yet but I'll get around to doing that soon. For those of you with e-bikes, I may be planning a few Trail Mates e-bike rides in the not too distant future - stay tuned!

thenThe last time we did an Intermediate ride in Nerang we ended up almost at the top of Elevator before heading back for coffee and breakfast.

This week, who knows where we'll end up - but there's probably going to be a little bit of climbing involved.

If there was going to be someone who broke their bike during the Hell Bells Adventure Race it was obviously going to be me.

A stick went through 4 spokes and snapped my tubless valve at 11pm, almost halfway through the race. But I managed to get it repaired and my son and I finished the race - which was our goal for our first time ever doing something like this.

I'll write up a full blog on my experience this weekend - for now, all I say is that I genuinely (and surprisingly) had a great time doing Hells Bells.

Coming up in two weeks time is the Trail Mates Trail Blazers Family Ride for kids aged between 10-12 (or thereabouts) and their parents. This one's going to be in the afternoon - at 3:30 pm on Saturday, 15 August.

So I forgot take a photo of the group that came on the Trail Mates Beginner ride on Saturday morning because we were having so much fun.

So I thought I'd share a photo of what the morning was actually like - an absolute stunner of a day.

In truth, we only had one real beginner join us, and it was Barry's first time away from the Casuarina trail. He, along with the group, got to try the Extended Loop, Casuarina Explorer, Lower Pete's and then Comm Games Loop 3 - which has had some work done to it recently so well worth a ride!

We finished up with a coffee and a chat at Cadence Cafe, oddly feeling like the only group of riders there 😅.

Just a reminder that this Saturday's ride is for all levels who just want something cruisey and social to start the weekend off.

I'm planning to throw in a few tricks and tips on how to enjoy riding out on the trails as well - and I'll make sure you're challenged, the no matter the level you're at!

It was an absolutely stunning morning for the ride at the Glossy Black trails in Reedy Creek. We powered through what admittedly ended up being a rockier ride than I was expecting. But we did find a cool little jump trail hidden amongst the network of trails.

We finished the 10ish km ride with a few PRs and a cuppa at Zaraffas in Reedy Creek. A good ride with some great company.
