Vale Craig MacLeod

It is with great sadness the Bond Pirates Rugby Club would like to inform you of the passing of Former Pirate Great Craig MacLeod.

Craig passed away unexpectedly this week at his home on, Mantinicus Island MA. in the United States.

This comes less than a year after the untimely passing of his son Samuel.

Our thoughts at this time are with his wife, Loretta, Sister Di, his Sons Daniel and Billy and their respective Families.

Craig was a vital part of the establishment of the Merging Bond University and Gold Coast Pirates after a long and suceesful career at Nerang Bulls Rugby Union and was the inaugural Senior Coach at the time of the establishment of this Club. Craig was also mentor to many Gold Caost Players with his involvement with the Gold Coast District Rugby Union Cyclones Program.

Those who played with or against or was Coached by or against him will know what a tough, fair individual Craig was a true student and teacher of the game.

Roof Tiler, Lobsterman, Rugby Player, Rugby Coach, Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Mate to many, many people. A New Zealand Native he lived here on the Gold Coast for some time and had been living in the State of Maine in the United States at his time of passing.

Friends and Family of Craig are warmly invited to a celebration of his life at the Bond Pirates Rugby Club , Saturday 22 August 2026 from 3PM

This young fella in the the White Headgear is Sam. At the end of 2024 the team he was playing in fell apart. In 2025 as a young 12 year old he jumped in with the Under 14 Knights Pirates. Sam sat on the bench, learnt the dark arts of Scrummaging under Lesi Semi , perfecting his Line outs and hung out with the bigger boys. After 2 seasons playing up a grade, Sam made South Coast as a Shadow, and today Sam was rewarded with selection in the Reds Under 14 program. Nice work Sam.
