I tell kids this all the time, โ€œbeing bored is actually good for you.โ€

And usually they look at me like Iโ€™m an idiot.

But boredom forces you to do something you donโ€™t have to do nearly as often anymore - figure out how to entertain yourself.

When thereโ€™s no game, no phone, no video and nobody immediately giving you something to do, eventually youโ€™ve got to create something.

You explore. You make up a game. You talk to someone. You build something. You move.

And that initial reaction of, โ€œI donโ€™t want to go outside, thereโ€™s nothing to doโ€, doesnโ€™t necessarily mean theyโ€™re going to hate it.

Sometimes thatโ€™s just the uncomfortable part before they figure out what to do with themselves.

And I think as adults, we can be really quick to solve boredom for kids.

When your child is strongly resisting going outside, itโ€™s completely understandable to think, โ€œthey obviously donโ€™t want to do it.โ€

But something we see all the time is that the kids who initially donโ€™t want to go are often the same kids who end up completely absorbed in something an hour later.

If every empty moment is immediately filled with highly engaging entertainment, there are fewer opportunities for kids to practise creating their own stimulation.

Sometimes boredom is the beginning of them figuring out how to engage themselves.

And thatโ€™s a skill worth giving them the opportunity to practise.

When your child says โ€œIโ€™m boredโ€, what usually happens?

Meet Santos ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท

Santos was our FIRST ever Adventure Minds Facilitator, and WOW are we happy to have him on our team. Heโ€™s helped us launch multiple programs across multiple regions! What a Legend!! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Santos left Argentina to follow a dream of seeing more of the world, and a journey thatโ€™s taken him through Germany, Hawaii, Sydney and eventually the Gold Coast.

Santos has always been drawn to people, movement and sport. He runs his own football academy, coaches young players, and also runs a weekly community soccer tournament bringing hundreds of people together.

For Santos, sport isnโ€™t just about performance. He sees it as a place where young people learn to make mistakes, get back up, work with others and develop genuine confidence.

He brings a naturally social, energetic presence to his groups and places a huge value on connection, friendship, positivity and growth.

๐—ข๐—ณ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ธ๐˜€: Youโ€™ll probably find him playing football, training, running, reading about self-development or somewhere near the ocean.

Weโ€™re proud to support our partners at Nurtured by Nature Psychotherapy and Dr Rhiarne Psychologist & The Family Wellbeing Hub with their upcoming Essence of Life: Bond & Bloom Program.

Thereโ€™s a lot about this program that aligns with what we value at Adventure Minds, particularly helping young people build resilience, confidence, emotional regulation, healthy relationships and practical life skills through meaningful real world experiences.

With a full day immersed in horses and nature, we think itโ€™s a brilliant opportunity for kids aged 10 - 13 to learn, connect, challenge themselves and build skills they can carry into everyday life.

* 9am to 3pm
* Canungra, QLD

There are a number of ways our mentors create connection at Adventure Minds. One of our favourites is a game called Snowball.

Everyone (including the mentors) writes an interesting fact about themselves, screws it up into a ball, and throws it into a bowl. We play a chaotic game where getting hit means burpees โ€” and then when we call โ€œSnowball,โ€ everyone stops, unfolds the paper theyโ€™re holding, and the group tries to guess whose fact it is.

Itโ€™s loud, itโ€™s fun, and by the end of it everyone in the group knows something real about someone they might never have spoken to otherwise.

Thatโ€™s what connection looks like at Adventure Minds. Not forced. Not awkward. Just the right environment and the right game.

You know how important it is for your child to make friends. So do we!
