2026/27 AWCC 2nd XI SKIPPERS ANNOUNCED 💚💛

Ashburton Willows Cricket Club is proud to announce our Second XI leadership team for the 2026/27 season, with Nick MacDougall appointed Captain and Nathan Pietsch appointed Vice Captain.

After the 2XI came agonisingly close to a premiership last season, Nick and Pietschy are determined to build on that momentum and help the group take the next step.

2XI Captain – Nick MacDougall

Nick takes over the captaincy with plenty of motivation after experiencing finals cricket across multiple grades last season.
He’s excited by the mix of established players and talented juniors coming through the club, and the important role the 2XI plays in developing the future First XI players of Ashburton Willows.

His approach is simple:
“Team first. Enjoy the game. Win.”
Nick also paid tribute to Pietschy for the job he did leading the side last season:
“Pietschy has handed over a team primed to be at the pointy end next season. There’s a fantastic vibe around the 2s and I look forward to continuing that in 2026/27.”

2XI Vice Captain – Nathan “Peachy” Pietsch

After captaining the 2XI all the way to the Grand Final last season, Pietschy remains an important part of the leadership group as Vice Captain.

“It’s a privilege and responsibility to lead a great group as we live our club values each week.”
He’s looking forward to the mix of youth, experience and a few “silver foxes like myself”, with everyone learning from each other while having plenty of fun along the way.

The culture Pietschy wants to continue is simple:
Fun. Supportive. Respectful. Competitive.
And after coming so close last season, the goal for 2026/27 is clear:
“See you at Ashy Park again in March as we go one better.”

AWCC 1st XI CAPTAIN & VICE CAPTAIN ANNOUNCEMENT

Ashburton Willows Cricket Club is proud to announce our 2026/27 First XI Leadership Group, with Chris Barr reappointed as First XI Captain and Chris Leutton appointed as First XI Vice Captain.

Both Chris and Chris embody everything we value as a club—leadership, commitment, humility and a genuine desire to help those around them improve. Together, they will lead a talented playing group that is determined to build on last season's success.

First XI Captain – Chris Barr

Chris will once again take the reins of our First XI after leading the side throughout a successful 2025/26 campaign.

"It's a huge honour to captain the First XI again this season. We've got a great group, a strong club structure and I'm excited to see what we can achieve together."

Chris believes healthy competition for places across the club will continue to drive standards, while his focus this season is building a culture centred on preparation, accountability and playing for each other.

Looking ahead, his message is clear:

"We need to be hungry for more. Finals were a great achievement last season, but we want to take the next step this year."

First XI Vice Captain – Chris Leutton

Following an outstanding first season in the Green & Gold, Chris Leutton has been appointed First XI Vice Captain.

His leadership, professionalism and willingness to mentor others have already had a significant impact on the group.

"It means a great deal. To be new to the club and trusted to have an impact from a leadership and mentoring perspective is incredibly humbling."

Chris is excited by the continued growth of the playing group, the commitment already being shown during pre-season and the exciting pathway emerging from our junior program.

His focus for the season ahead is simple:

"Get ready for a great season ahead. We want to build on last year's success, lift our standards again and take the next step towards a premiership."

Looking Ahead

After a season that saw every senior side play finals football and multiple teams reach Grand Finals, the foundations have been laid for another exciting summer at Ferndale Park.

With Chris Barr and Chris Leutton leading the First XI, we are confident the playing group will continue to uphold the values that make Ashburton Willows such a special club while striving for even greater success in 2026/27.

🏏 2026/27 AWCC COMMITTEE | TOM HARRINGTON – JUNIOR COORDINATOR

We're proud to introduce Tom Harrington, who returns as one of our Junior Coordinators for the 2026/27 season.

With 35 years of involvement at Ashburton Willows, Tom has worn many hats including General Committee Member, Vice President, Social Committee, Ground Committee and Junior Coordinator. A former junior and senior player, Life Member and proud junior parent, his passion for the club has never wavered.

Tom first joined AWCC as a 13-year-old and was inspired by club legends like Wal Dickie and Brendan Foley to give back to the club that gave him so much. Today, he's passionate about creating the same opportunities for the next generation.

This season, Tom is looking forward to seeing the juniors he's coached since Under 10s make the step into senior cricket, while also watching the long-awaited Ferndale Pavilion redevelopment get underway.

Fun fact: While many know Tom from around the club, he's actually a town planner who spends much of his working week across regional Victoria.

Thanks, Tom, for your incredible 35 years of service and commitment to Ashburton Willows.
