When I'm short on time, I don't ask “what's the healthiest meal I can make?”

I ask:
“What's the easiest way I can build a decent meal?”

Because when it's 5:30, everyone's hungry and I have zero interest in cooking from scratch, I don't need dinner to be perfect!!

I just need to get something decent on the table, with minimal fuss.

So this is the rough little formula I use:
PROTEIN + CARBS + COLOUR

Start with an easy protein
Add some carbs for energy
Add some veg or fruit

And on the really busy nights, pick the easiest version of each.

Today's example
BBQ chicken. Wraps. Pre-made salad.

Nothing revolutionary 😂 But everyone's fed, it took bu**er all time and we still got a pretty decent meal.

I think sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to have the perfect meals.

But there's a big gap between going through the drive through, and the perfect meal, find an option that feels achievable for you so that food isn't another source of stress.

So next time you're standing in the supermarket at 5:30 wondering what the hell you're going to make…
Protein + carbs + colour.
Pick the easy option and get on with your night 😂

Save this one for your next dinner emergency.

I reckon there are a few women who need to hear Brooke's story...

She's a working mum of three, and between work, family and everything else, winter was a bit of a struggle.

She told me..

“There have been so many personal and family challenges over the winter months. I was in a real rut and just wasn't making the gym a priority, even though I know how important it is for me.”

And I think that's the bit so many of us can relate to.

You KNOW how much better you feel when you're moving your body, getting out of the house and doing something for yourself.

But when life gets hectic, somehow those things are often the first to go, and then it all just feels worse 😩

Brooke said...

“Completing a workout and seeing the Impact crew ALWAYS helps to lighten the load mentally. Let's be honest, life is challenging, and sometimes just getting yourself through the (gym) doors is a win.”

And then last week, after the s**t show that Winter has been for her she hit a PB 🥳

But the bit I really love is what she said after achieving it...

“If you'd told winter Brooke that she'd be hitting a deadlift PB after everything she'd been through, I probably wouldn't have believed you!” 😂

"It felt so empowering to realise how far I've come"

So, if you've had a rough few months and exercise has slipped, maybe this is your little reminder that you haven't stuffed everything up.

You don't need to suddenly find the motivation to train five days a week or make up for all the sessions you've missed.

Maybe this week you just book one session, turn up, see your people and remember how bloody good it feels to do something for yourself.

You don't have to be back at your best to start showing up for yourself again. You get better by showing up.

So proud of you Brooke. Thank you for sharing this with us. 🤍

I honestly wonder how many of us have spent years learning how to eat less, when what we really needed was to learn how to fuel ourselves better.

We see it in conversations a lot, take the topic of protein for example.
Women know it's important, but so often the first reason they mention is that it keeps them full so they eat less overall 😞

And I do get it. When you’ve heard the same messages about food and your body for years, they become so normal you don’t even question them anymore.

Even something as beneficial as eating more protein can quietly become another strategy to stop yourself eating.

But what if we started looking at food a little differently? 🤔

Next time you’re putting a meal together, instead of asking “What can I eat so I won’t be hungry later?”, try asking:

“What can I add to this meal to give my body what it needs?”

Maybe it’s a source of protein to support your muscles and recovery. Some carbs to fuel your day. Fruit or veg for fibre and nutrients. Enough food to leave you feeling satisfied.

Or even just something delicious because you enjoy it! 🤤

And next time you see a health tip online, ask this...

What is this actually helping me achieve? Do I need this advice?

More energy? Getting stronger? Feeling better? Supporting my health?

Or is it just another way of telling me to eat less?

You don’t have to question every bite of food, or get every meal “right”. And you also don’t have to dismiss advice just because it talks about fullness or appetite.

But you CAN start questioning whether the advice you’re following is helping you build the life you want, or keeping you stuck trying to achieve goals you didn't even set for yourself.

You deserve to eat in a way that supports what you want to DO with your body, not spend your life trying to take up less space 💪🏼

The fitness industry is pretty good at convincing us that MORE = better.

More workouts. More intensity.
Push harder. Sweat more.

We don't really see it that way 🙅🏼‍♀️

Sometimes getting more from your strength training isn't about doing more at all.

It's improving how well you move.
Your range. Control. Stability.

The things that help you train better, and feel more capable outside the gym too.

We kept seeing our members needing more of that.

So instead of telling them to “do more stretching and mobility at home” 😂 we built it into what we do.

That's where 'Move Well' came from.

We're not trying to make people better at the gym.
We're using the gym to make them better equipped for life.

Strong enough. Mobile enough. Capable enough to keep doing the things they love for a bloody long time 💪🏼

How was your first Move Well session??

70kg is awesome.

But this is the bit we love more, what we're really celebrating 🥳

The transformation that happens because of getting stronger...

When Simone first started strength training with us, she said she “wasn't really sure what I was capable of.”

She didn't even want to walk through the front door.

This week she saw 70kg on the bar and thought… I want to have a shot at that.

And she did it. 🥹

That's what getting stronger can do.
It's not just adding more weight to the bar.
It's slowly changing the way you see yourself.

From I don't know if I can…
to I reckon I'll give it a go.

And then sometimes…
holy s**t, I actually did it 😱

Simone says she feels stronger and more confident now, and more willing to see what she's capable of.

That's the win.

Not that every woman needs to deadlift 70kg.
That there's something pretty bloody powerful about becoming a person who backs herself and has the confidence to try.

The opportunities and experiences you get because of that changes lives 💪🏼

Making time to look after ourselves when life gets really busy.

Yep. Us too 😂

We're definitely not the people to tell you we've nailed the whole work/life/parenting/looking-after-yourself thing 🫠

Between kids, running a business and all the normal life stuff, there are definitely times when exercise, eating well, getting enough sleep and looking after our own health could very easily be the first things to go.

But here's something we've learnt (and still have to remind ourselves of)…

The things we drop when we're busy are often the exact things that help us handle the busy 🤯

When we look after ourselves, we have more energy, patience and capacity for everything else.

We're better parents. Better partners. Better leaders.

And we have more to give the people around us.

So if life feels particularly full right now, don't make “looking after yourself” another massive thing you need to get right.

Ask yourself:
What's ONE thing I tend to drop when I'm busy that actually helps me feel better?

Maybe it's a walk.
Training a couple of times this week.
Eating breakfast.
Getting to bed earlier.
Getting outside for half an hour.

Pick one and put that back in.

You don't need to wait for life to calm down.
You need something that helps you handle life while it's busy 🫶🏼

Because sometimes it gets to 3pm, you're starving, school pick-up is just around the corner, and you realize you have nothing to eat again!

These are a couple of things I'd happily grab.

But the useful bit isn't really the exact products.
When I'm choosing something on the run, I'm generally thinking:

Can I get some protein in?
Will it give me some energy?
Will it actually satisfy me until my next meal?
And do I actually like it?

I'm not searching for the lowest calorie option or the packet that looks the most “healthy”

I'm just trying to give my body something useful and get on with my day.

Because eating well as a busy mum isn't always going to look like perfectly prepped food from home.

Sometimes it's standing in the supermarket thinking “sh*t, I'm hungry” and knowing how to make a pretty good choice 😂

Save this for the next time that's you.

And tell me, should I do more quick supermarket snacks, or or emergency dinners next?

Jordan spoke to a woman today who said something we hear pretty often…

“I'm just not a gym person. I don't like gyms.”

And fair enough. Maybe gyms genuinely aren't for her.

But it made me wonder how many other women around Geelong have ruled themselves out before they've even started because somewhere along the way they've decided…

“That's just not me.”

Because I used to think the same thing 🙋🏼‍♀️

Don't get me wrong I loved sport and being active, but gyms felt intimidating 😬

I didn't feel confident walking into one and definitely didn't feel like I knew what I was doing.

And I could give you a pretty long list of Impact members who would've once said exactly the same.

Women who now strength train consistently.
Feel confident walking through the doors.
Get excited about getting stronger.
And even look forward to coming 🤩

So maybe “I'm not a gym person” isn't something you need to decide about yourself forever.

Maybe you just haven't found your way of doing it yet.

Impact crew, help me out with this one...

Were you always someone who enjoyed the gym and exercise?
Or what would the old you have said? 👇

I reckon there are a few women reading who need to hear your answers. 🤍

I'm sure I'm not alone here, but there was a time when I thought feeling better about my body meant I needed to change it.

That the point of exercising was to change your appearance.
I weighed myself daily.
I'd pick up a food packet and look straight at the calories and carbs like that was the most important information.

I've done a lot of work and learnt to change my beliefs around this, but still after working in fitness with Women for nearly 10 years I still see this mindset in others.

I still have days where I don't particularly love how my body looks.

The difference is... it doesn't hold the same importance anymore.

I care so much more about being strong.
About what my body can do.
About having energy for my life and being able to do the things I love.

And beyond my body, just being a good person and having a positive impact on the world.

But when thoughts about my appearance inevitably creep in, I'm much better at recognising it for what it is rather than letting it dictate how I eat, exercise or feel about myself.

That's a pretty bloody freeing place to get to.

Something I want more women to experience.

And a big part of why we do things differently here at Impact Movement Co in Geelong.

To exercise because it makes you feel good.
To get excited about strength training and becoming stronger.
To eat in a way that supports your body without obsessing over every number.

Because, when exercise is viewed as a tool to change your appearance we completely undervalue what it can actually do for us.

We're here to change that.

It might surprise you that all of the women sitting around this table didn't start with us as coaches.

They started as members.
They had their own first day.
Their own nerves.
Their own reasons for wanting to make a change.

I remember meeting each of them for the first time, most with their own doubts and moments of “I don't know if I can do this.”

They got stronger, built confidence and along the way, exercise became something they actually wanted in their lives.

The thing that made everything else feel a little easier.

They found themselves again.

And eventually, they wanted to help other women of Geelong experience that too.

I think that's a pretty big part of why our gym feels the way it does.

Because if you're looking at them now thinking “easy for them, they're gym people"

They weren't always.
They've been on the other side of it.

And maybe that's exactly why they're so bloody good at what they do.

They know what it can feel like to start.
And they know the impact finding the right people and environment can have.

Now they get to be that for someone else.
Pretty cool ripple effect when you think about it.
