Its back ready to go again after Ultimate 4x4 Challenge.
Cooper Gesch and I had a epic adventure from the get go, from getting the first gps points wrong getting to the front gate to almost loosing the van on the way home at midnight..
We started off with prolog day well with Coops getting a few points wrong by less than 500m and than sending us up the wrong creek but we got that sorted pretty quick and than Coops never made the same mistake twice and learnt extra quick when you throw him off the deep end 🤣 than he found out what a pull down wall looks like by actually having to do it mid stage! With the nerves settled and getting it done well started the event in a impressive 6th overall.
Day 2 we did well just keeping the car together with mostly short stages between 15mins to 1h and than things just didn't want to play the game like they normally do, we had a power steer leak that took longed than expected to find as it was with other things that normally settle after day 1 like the transfer self levels when overfilled. We also had a cooler line for the box have a stick jammed in it and lost the trans fluid, we filled it with what we had and it was fine on anything under 45° so we where planing to borrow some fluids but just either forgot or was busy fixing and it just didn't line up to grab some. On the night stage we clipped a tree and put a hole in our steering cooler which pumped all our steer fluid out at over 100kph with about 1.3k to the finish, the points where straight in front so we staying in it at a steady pace getting the last 2 points and finishing in front of everyone in our group because of the dust we kicked up, Millweld Customs gave us a fitting to bypass the cooler and some fluid which kept us in the game,
Day 3 we had a 100 point grab them all which we did, got a flat so we tried to pump it up when our compressor melted, (was a brand new one so that was unexpected) so we had to ask for help to keep air in the tyre from other competitors, think it was about 5 teams all up helped us out 👌 Coops and I pulled the compressor apart to rebuild it and was almost done before we had to start the next stage so we grabbed all the tools, parts and everything else we had out, pumped up the tyre and away we went except we left the bulk part of the compressor still sitting on the rear of the car and thats the last we seen of it 🤦♂️ that night Coops was up until gods knows when sorting a compressor and fitting from Steve Hobbs while I took the farmer for a blast up the creek at 10pm as I promised last time i was here but we all knows how that ended..
Day 4 we start well on the morning stage and came in 3rd i believe, car was still going great and the next stage was another pull down wall where we knew we didn't have enough oil to winch up it so the plan was to pull extra down and drive it at speed but the car went sideways trying to get the anchor out and we ended up tangled with the car beside us, with no drive forward, no ground anchor to pull us forward we where stuck so I turned the car off to reset the TCM and than gave it hell to get off the car which cooked the box completely and ended the event for us, and James from Dynamic racing gave us a hand and pulled us forward and than lent us there anchor to get up but Coops was done from his efforts and the box was smoking. Brad from Swap rats gave me some oil as a slimmer of hope as they where broken as well but it didn't help and we where done!
Lucky we took plenty of drinks and we just chilled out helping teams that came back to camp and took my truck out for fuel drops, help set a few stages and just generally had fun.
