One of the common patterns I see with inconsistent ball strikers is that they don’t shift pressure into their trail side early enough in the backswing.
By around P2, we want to see approximately 70% of pressure into the trail side.
Why so early?
Because an effective golf swing happens quickly. Loading pressure earlier gives you the opportunity to change direction sooner, push effectively into the lead side and apply force at the right time to support the movements we want through impact.
In this drill, I’m using the Downshift Golf ® board to provide immediate feedback and help create the feeling of loading into the trail side earlier in the backswing.
The goal isn’t to hang back.
It’s to load early → shift early → push into the lead side.
Better pressure. Better sequence. Better ball striking.

If your club path is consistently travelling left at impact, simply trying to “swing more from the inside” often isn’t enough.
Sometimes you need a constraint that gives you instant feedback.
Using a barrier during practice creates a clear reference for where the club can and can’t travel.
Place the barrier outside the ball and work on delivering the club without making contact with it.
The goal? 👇
➡️ Reduce an excessive out-to-in path
➡️ Improve the direction the club travels through impact
➡️ Create a more neutral delivery
➡️ Improve your start line, curvature and overall ball striking
The key is to start with slow, controlled swings. Don’t chase speed straight away.
Give your body time to learn a different movement pattern, then gradually increase the speed as the new path becomes easier to reproduce.
Don’t just tell yourself to swing differently, create a practice environment that forces you to move differently.
Better feedback. Better practice. Better golf.
STOP PRACTISING THE SAME SHOT OVER AND OVER.
If every ball you hit on the range is with the same club, to the same target, from the same lie you’re training for a game that doesn’t exist.
Golf is random. Your practice should be too.
Today with Ashley, we took random practice to another level.
Before every shot, he drew a tee from a cup that determined:
🏌️ Ball flight (draw, fade or straight)
📈 Trajectory (high, medium or low)
No knowing what was coming next.
No getting comfortable.
Just adapting, problem-solving and executing just like you have to on the golf course.
The result? Better decision-making, improved focus and practice that actually transfers to lower scores.
The best players don’t just hit balls
They train for the unpredictability of golf.

Everyone thinks the gym was for the members… but honestly, I built it for me 😅 (don’t worry, you can still use it).
Coaching starts with leading by example, and that includes getting after it in the gym.
6 months working with and feeling the difference every day.
Practice what you preach. 💪
If you struggle with your club path there is chance your ball position could be influencing.
Here is a simple exercise you can do when practicing to work on making it more consistent and in the correct spot every time.

It’s been an absolute privilege and honour to work with the ACT Junior Squad in 2025!
This weekend we’ve had a 2 Day camp to start preparing for the upcoming Junior Interstate Series and what a fantastic weekend it was.
Over the weekend we’ve measured(3D & Trackman Data), assessed (TPI Screened) and benchmarked (Wedge skills Test and Distance Control) the squad, followed by helping them develop effective ways for them all to practice particularly in Wedge Play and Putting.
Huge things to come with this squad and I’m excited to be part of it!
