A little late to the party… but this one was worth sharing. ⛵️❄️

Race 2 of the Inshore Winter Series marked the first Fremantle Sailing Club Consistency race our RAMP squad has contested as we begin building towards having both Melges racing Inshore events regularly throughout the season.

It was a day of light winds, plenty of learning, good laughs, and one very prestigious prize… the Duck Jacket. 🦆 From tactical lessons to a photo-worthy kite hoist (for all the wrong reasons), the team had a fantastic first hit-out in the series. Full race report compliments of Miriam below:

‘Team RAMP took the Melges 24 ‘Mighty Meely’ out for a spin for the second race in the inshore winter series. Huey served us up a light northerly with clear skies and crisp temps, leading to robust debate on what to wear to this party.

Our lineup was Emma & Taleylin as officers in charge of ups and downs, Miriam attempting to hold down kite trim and naviguessing, special guest star Richard on main, and Heidi on the stick.

Course 14L gave us a reaching start out to the channel, and a less than ideal strategy & ex*****on across the line left us gasping for air for a chunk of the first leg.

Once we found some clear air, we focused on keeping her moving in the right directions. Couldn’t quite get enough pressure into the sails to go surfing on the kite run to S mark but kept our gybes and drops pretty clean. A marginal call on a hoist for a tight run back out from Bathers Beach led to a mild case of the sideways and caught the paparazzi’s attention - we think there may be a few interesting shots on the cutting room floor.

We got across the line shortly after Turkish Delight to round off the team’s first hit-out for winter. No flags in the bag for us this time, but we were bestowed with the Duck Jacket, for our efforts in stowing the outboard before leaving the harbour. Perhaps this routine matter looked like something it wasn’t - we’d like the record to show that the outboard came back to the dock safe and sound. Skipper Heidi accepted the robes of honour with grace and poise - maybe not all heroes wear capes, but ours does!’

Two teams. Two events. Same day. ⛵️

Heidi Oswald and her crew are set for the final Seldén for Sailing race tomorrow at Fremantle Sailing Club while Nia Jerwood and her team will take on the fleet at East Fremantle Yacht Club. Good luck and good hunting! 😎

Big thanks to Kyle Dodds from Fujin Marine for getting out on the water today and sharing his knowledge with both teams who trained on the the Melges 24.....helping dial things in ahead of a big day of racing.

Different events, same focus. Let’s get after it 💥

Tuning up and levelling up 🔧⛵

Huge thanks to Kyle Dodds from Fujin Marine for jumping in with the race squad and sharing his rig tuning knowledge on the club Melges 24 🙌

From getting the basics right to fine-tuning for performance, it’s sessions like this that make all the difference……building confidence, skills, and speed across the fleet 💨

📣 Good news: Kyle will be back!
We’ll be running another session open to members after the summer season wraps up and before the winter inshore series kicks off. Excellent for anyone interested in learning about the Melges 24s. Watch this space for date. 👀
