Last night, we also had the privilege of celebrating someone who has given an incredible seven years of his time, energy and passion to the YCW Netball Club β Daniel.
Seven years on a committee is an impressive achievement in itself, but when you look at everything Dan has managed to squeeze into those seven years, it becomes pretty exceptional.
Dan has worn just about every hat there is to wear at YCW. He has been Vice President, President and Coach, and at various times has also taken on the roles of Grading Liaison, Coaching Liaison and Secretary.
And knowing Dan, he probably would have happily taken on a few more roles if weβd let him!
During his time as President and Vice President, Dan helped guide the club through some incredibly challenging years, particularly navigating the COVID seasons and all the uncertainty that came with them. He helped keep the club moving forward during a time when so much was changing, and his commitment to YCW never wavered.
He has also played a huge part in building the club we have today. Dan was instrumental in bringing our sponsors, Plumbed and Illuminate, on board, helped secure the MOU with YCW Football Netball Club, and has even started the transition towards our new dresses β so his influence on the club will quite literally be something we continue to see for years to come!
But for all the meetings, emails, paperwork, coaching, grading and organising, there is another side of Dan that I think many of us will remember just as fondly.
Dan loves a dress-up.
And he brought that love to YCW by introducing us to Whacky Wednesday β which I think we can safely say quickly became one of his favourite days of the season.
There was always something to look forward to, and you could guarantee Dan would be right there embracing the ridiculousness of it all. In fact, I suspect Whacky Wednesday may be one of the hardest things for him to retire from!
Of course, Dan's connection with YCW is also deeply personal. Over the years, he has had the opportunity to watch all three of his children play at the club. So his seven years haven't just been about committee meetings and volunteering β they have been about family, community, friendships and watching his kids grow through the club as well.
Dan, your contribution to YCW Netball has been incredible and exceptional. The amount of time, effort and commitment you have given to this club is something we are incredibly grateful for.
You have helped shape YCW, supported our players and coaches, guided the club through challenging times, and always been willing to step up and get things done.
Seven years is a long time to give to any club, and we know that YCW has benefited enormously from everything you have brought to it.
On behalf of everyone at YCW Netball, we want to congratulate you and, more importantly, thank you
