A few weeks ago we took a trip to Knowsley Forest for The Alaskan Malamute Club of Victoria’s ANKC Race ~ our last race of the season 🌲🐾

This was also my final practical assessment to become a Dogs Australia Sled Race judge which I passed! I’m now officially a judge ✔️

I split the team up for this race. I ran Sage and Marley in 2 dog, and ran Libby in 1 dog for the first heat only. I needed to allow time for my practical assessment as this was priority, so I withdrew Libby from the second heat.

All 3 girls qualified gaining kms towards their sled dog titles. After a steady start in heat 1, Sage and Marley blitzed heat 2 taking home 🥇 place in the 2 dog class.

This was Marley’s first time racing in lead, and it was nice to see her confident in that position. It was also the first time Libby raced solo in which she had to make all the decisions! She done very well on her own and I had no need to scoot 🙂

It’s always fun catching up with my sledding family in Victoria and having some friendly banter with Darryl Ball who is always tough competition❗️It’s always a blast spending time with Courtney, West and Dawson 🤍

My mum came along for this trip so we swapped out camping for a cute little studio close to the forest 🏕️

We have a few events to catch up on from the last few weeks but this one takes priority!

Libby turned 2️⃣ on Friday 🥳

We had a whole weekend of adventures 🌲🥾
I took Libby to Tumbarumba for our final sled sports event for the year ~ backpacking!

On Saturday we hiked 16km on a section of the Hume and Hovel track with Libby gaining her first qualification in Working Novice Pack Dog ✨
She was absolutely perfect, loved the hike (as well as sleeping in a motel), and enjoyed her solo weekend trip away 🎈

It was such a fun and adventurous way to finish the season with the best company. We wrapped up with a celebration dinner at a beautiful winery 🥂

Now that racing is finished for the season I’m using what time we have left to continue working with the younger dogs.

I’ve been running Libby solo to help build her confidence, and running Marley with Sage for the same reason. It gives her the opportunity to run in lead and also learn commands.

I’ve been working on speed adjustments with all the girls so they learn to run at a slower pace when asked - this is a work in progress!

We’ve also been trialling the Zero DC harnesses!

Canberra Sled Dog Classic ~ August 2026

Unfortunately this race didn’t quite go as smoothly as we’d like. We had an issue after the first heat and decided to withdraw from heat two in the best interest of the dogs.

A big congratulations to the Canberra Sled Dog Club for reaching a milestone and celebrating their 30th anniversary 🎉

Dinner Plain Sled Dog Sprint ❄️⛄️
8th ~ 9th August 2026

Last weekend we headed up the mountain to Dinner Plain to race on snow. This is the second time we’ve been, and both times it became a dryland race due to the lack of snow. Thankfully we were still able to race, but what are the chances!

Sage, Libby and Marley enjoyed racing on a different track with some technical aspects 🐾

They’re developing nicely as a team and continue to amaze me. It makes me proud to see all our training come together at a race, and to experience just how special this team is 🌟

We placed 🥈 in the 3 Dog Class and were one of the fastest teams out of all the rig classes which ran the same track❗️

The best part was Courtney and Dawson making a surprise trip to spend the weekend cheering us on and catching up. To top it off, Dawson experienced his first race as a musher in the P*e Wee class with Sage. A very special moment 🤍
