What a weekend at the 2026 Victorian Open Championships held at Mulgrave Country Club!

MCC Squash were proud to have 6 players competing in the tournament across multiple divisions.

Big congratulations to Mitch Clarke who was the Division 4 winner 🏆

Congratulations also to our other MCC players for their stellar performances: Benjamin Ratcliffe who competed in the PSA Open and Satellite draws; Cameron McLachlan (Division 2); Ivan Zarezkij (Division 3); Jackson Gayda (Division 4); and junior Meriam Ibrahim for whom it was the very first PSA tournament!

It was another successful MCC Members Squash Championships this year, one of the largest club champs we've held in many years with 74 entrants, including many new players, some of whom went on to win their grade! The Grand Final night was held on Wed 15 July with many high quality matches and a great turnout from our club's members and supporters at Hunts (Goodlife Fitzroy).

Very proud that Victoria are the 2026 Australian Teams Champions at the 2026 Australian National Championships! 🏆

Some stellar performances from our VIC team, featuring two of our MCC Squash players, Benjamin Ratcliffe and Joanne Joseph, as well as fellow Kooyong Squash players Tate Norris and Sarah Cardwell 💪

It's a huge achievement for our VIC team who managed to win the title this year against QLD who had previously defeated us last year to win last year's title. Well done all! 🔥

🏆 Congratulations to our MCC Squash Chairman, Peter Wright OAM, on an extraordinary honour. Squash Australia has awarded Peter its first Life Membership in 20 years – a recognition that speaks for itself.

Peter has an incredible lifetime of achievements and awards, with some of his most notable achievements below:
- 3x World Masters Champion (Toronto 1985, Edinburgh 1993 and Sheffield 1999)
- 4 x World Masters Runner-Up (Arhus 1989, Brisbane 1994, Melbourne 1995 and Melbourne 2001)
- 5 x Australian Masters Champion
- 4 x Australian Masters Games Champion
- 6 x New Zealand Masters Champion
- 30+ years as President of Australian Masters Squash Association
- Championship Director for both the World Championships held in Melbourne in 1996 & 2001
- Executive Committee Member for Squash in the 2005 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne
- World Technical Director for Squash in 2009 World Masters Games in Sydney
- Order of Australia Medal (OAM) recipient
- Admitted to the Squash and Racquetball Victoria Hall of Fame in 2014
- Current MCC Squash Chairman for 21 years, and MCC Squash member for 39 years
- Now a Squash Australia Life Member

Peter has played in top level teams for 16 years at MCC Squash, and has been a member of 30 premiership teams at MCC Squash Section, with 25 of these premierships in the top level of competitions.

The AMSA have established a 'Peter Wright OAM Award' given annually for outstanding service to AMSA, and the MCC Squash Club has established the 'Peter Wright OAM Legend Award' for the Most Outstanding Club Person of the year.

Peter has dedicated countless hours and over more than six decades to our sport and to MCC Squash – as an accomplished player, administrator, and tireless advocate, and we are incredibly proud to call him our Chairman. We couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this honour, and we thank Peter for his dedication and tireless efforts to squash, which has inspired generations.
