Hunter Bowman Club Working Bee Update

The weekend just passed, we held a short-notice working bee, and firstly, I want to apologise for the last-minute decision and the short notice given.

We made the decision to make a start on our new awning between the containers, and while we understand that the short notice made it difficult for some people to attend, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who was able to come along and lend a hand.

There will definitely be more working bees, as this is a large job, and I personally promise that we will give everyone much more notice next time!

The plan for this weekend was originally to remove everything from our storage container so we could properly assess what we have, what we need, and what can be put to better use. We also wanted to make a start on removing the old shelter between the containers, now that both containers have been levelled.

As you can see, there was A LOT of stuff packed into that container! Everything has now been sorted, with a scrap pile, a rubbish pile and, thankfully, plenty of steel and materials that can be put to good use making all sorts of things around the club.

We then removed the old awning that had served us well over the years. After a quick measure-up, we decided that rather than scrap it, we could give it a new purpose by using it to protect our existing target container and toilets.

With some quick measurements, a few welding issues that we managed to overcome, plenty of teamwork and a lot of hard work, we had the brackets installed and the awning was well underway and almost completed.

We also moved one of the toilets into its new home. These improvements will help protect our equipment, containers and facilities from the weather and, ultimately, help our investments last much, much longer.

Most importantly, I want to say a massive thank you to every single Hunter Bowman Club member who has contributed to this project — whether it was your time, your effort, your equipment, your skills, your knowledge or your donations.

A huge thank you also goes to the National ABA and Northern NSW Branch for the grants we have received. These grants are helping us improve our facilities and turn them into somewhere that is not only usable, but somewhere our members can genuinely enjoy and be proud of.

Without the help of our members, the National ABA and Northern NSW Branch, none of this happens.

There is still a lot of work ahead, but we are making progress, one job at a time.

A 3D point score will be held tomorrow. Registration is scheduled for 9:00 AM, followed by a muster at 9:30 AM. Roast beef and gravy rolls will be available for purchase at lunch. If you would like to order a roll, please send me a message.

Good morning everyone. The rain has been very welcome. Although the exact amount that fell on the range is uncertain, it has been sufficient to temporarily suppress dust. The grounds are in good condition and the 3D point score scheduled for tomorrow will proceed as planned. We look forward to seeing you there.

This weekend's point score shoot has been cancelled due to its unfortunate coincidence with Mother's Day. We apologize for this inconvenience and encourage you to spend quality time with a maternal figure in your life instead.

Saturday's working bee will proceed as scheduled, commencing at 9 am with tasks such as mowing and cleaning.

This weekend, the 18th and 19th, marks a significant event for Hunter Bowman. Our 30x30 challenge, as per our calendar, and the Branch E IFAA Indoor Mail Match, which will be held outdoors, will take place. Participants can choose to participate in either or both events, provided they can handle the required number of arrows. We will begin on Saturday around lunchtime, and assistance is needed to set up targets for the 30x30 challenge. A few minor changes have been made to the course to accommodate the IFAA mail match, which will be held on the practice butts on either Saturday afternoon or Sunday. The basic rules for the 30x30 challenge are as follows: shoot at your own pace, go out when you want, but be off the range by 5 pm Saturday and 2 pm Sunday. You can shoot all 30 in a round or a few, then complete the rest on Sunday. Your call. Scores must be submitted before 2 pm on Sunday. A minimum of two shooters per group is required, with at least one adult present. The primary objective is to have fun. A few of us will be camping overnight, and everyone is invited to join us. The more, the merrier, and we often come up with great ideas around the campfire.

Today we had our 1st 3D Point score shoot for the year & a great big thanks to all who attended & helped make it a great day allround.
A few new faces, a few familiar faces & a great turnout for this time of year with what I believe was 17 shooters signing on.

A couple of new inovations brought into play today for the first time too, as we ran the running target as part of the club point score & introduced a sittiing "Blind" shot for anyone who was interested in taking up the challenge.
We have a couple of new Target ideas coming up & some developements with respect to club infrastucture so watch this space!

The course overall once again set out by our range setter, Mick Allen didnt disapoint, some gnarly little gaps & overhangs to deal with which always keeps things interesting.
Again, thanks to everyone who rolled up this morning, I know I had a great day & I think most, if not all did as well.
