Somehow we’re heading into week four of this module already, which feels impossible because I swear we only just started.

The studio has been really, really full lately. Lovely full. Slightly mat-Tetris full. 😂

And I realised this week that our final module of the year is already almost entirely spoken for by current students, so at this stage I’m not actually sure I’ll be opening it up more broadly at all.

Which is a very nice problem to have.

I’m always a bit wary of saying things like this because I don’t want it to sound like some weird business humblebrag, but genuinely — thank you. This little room under my house continues to be one of the best things I’ve ever built.

Anyway. Week four. Shoulders still featuring heavily. Nobody panic. 😂

I look like I’m making a terribly important point here. I was probably talking about shoulder blades. 😂

I spend a fairly ridiculous amount of time thinking about what I’m going to teach each week. Not because I want to cram people full of anatomy or turn a yoga class into some sort of movement science lecture — god forbid — but I do want people to leave knowing something they didn’t know before.

Sometimes that might be how the shoulder blade actually moves around the rib cage. Sometimes it’s noticing what happens when the upper arm rotates in the socket. Other times it’s simply realising that you can work quite hard without turning the whole thing into a fight.

Then the following week I’ll usually talk about it less and ask people to move more, because eventually all the information has to get out of the bloody way and let you practise.

That’s probably the bit I’m most interested in as a teacher these days. Giving people enough information to make the practice more interesting and useful, without making them feel like they need a degree in anatomy before they’re allowed to move their own body.

Also, apparently leopard print is part of the teaching methodology now. 😂

I’ve been planning the next couple of weeks of classes this morning and realised this is probably one of those things I never really explain outside the room.

We’ve spent the first two weeks of this module getting curious about shoulder blades. How they move, what happens when we take an arm overhead, and what changes when we stop trying to hold them in one supposedly “correct” position.

Week one we slowed things down and paid attention to it. Week two I talked about it less and we just moved.

Which is fairly typical of how I teach, really. I like people to understand something about what they’re doing, but I don’t want a yoga class to feel like an anatomy lecture. At some point the information needs to get out of the bloody way and let you practise. 😂

So this week we’re shifting our attention a little further out into the shoulder joint itself — exploring the ways the upper arm can move and rotate, and how much of that movement we can actively control ourselves.

Not because everybody needs enormous shoulder mobility. They absolutely don’t.

I just think it’s useful to know your own body a little better.

And eventually I promise we’ll move onto another body part. 😂

I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time this weekend going back through the photographs from Coming Home, and somewhere amongst the approximately nine million beautiful images Nicole gave me, I realised they probably explain what I’m trying to create far better than I usually do.

Yes, there’s yoga.

But there’s also really good food. Sitting around tables for much longer than intended. Making things badly and beautifully. Getting cold on purpose. Lying down. Laughing until your face hurts. Proper conversations. Quiet. A bit of ridiculousness. And that strange lovely thing that happens when a group of people who mostly didn’t know each other a few days earlier suddenly very much do.

And actually, although these were taken over four days away, I think it’s the same thing I’m always trying to make space for — whether it’s a retreat, a Tuesday night practice in my little studio, or somebody walking through the door for the first time.

Not another place to perform.

Not somewhere you need to become a better, bendier, calmer, more enlightened version of yourself.

Just somewhere to turn up as you are, pay attention for a while, move your body, and perhaps leave feeling a little more like yourself.

Apparently this is my brand. Who knew. 😂

Apparently the most consistent thing about my yoga practice… is that I keep losing it! 😂

The mats are out.

I had all sorts of plans for this two-week break.

I was going to practise. Walk every day. Get back into some good routines. Have a little more time for myself.

I did almost none of it.

Life got very loud instead.

And I suspect I’m not the only woman who knows exactly what that feels like.

Sometimes making time for ourselves sounds wonderfully simple until everyone else needs something and suddenly we’re at the bottom of our own list again.

Which is partly why I’m so ready to get back into this room.

Because when it’s on the calendar, we come.

For an hour, we practise. We breathe. We move. We pay attention to something other than everything waiting for us outside the room.

It doesn’t fix our lives.

I don’t think yoga does that.

But for an hour, things can feel a little quieter.

Module 5 begins this week. Tuesday is full, and I have one Thursday mat left. I close enrolment tonight.

If you need the room too, come.

We’re back next week. ❤️

Module 5 begins 1 September — six weeks of progressive, breath-led vinyasa here in my little Eimeo studio.

Tuesday nights are now FULL, but I still have a couple of mats available on Thursdays at 6.30pm.

We practise together across the six weeks — building, repeating, refining and giving things enough time to actually land.

Small classes. Real bodies. No need to perform or keep up.

You don’t need loads of yoga experience, but this is an active vinyasa practice. Expect to move, breathe, build strength and mobility, and get to know your own body a little better along the way.

And if you’ve been quietly watching from the sidelines thinking one day I’ll come along…

Maybe this is your day. ❤️

Module 5 · 1 September–8 October

A couple of mats remaining.

Six weeks. On purpose.

Tomorrow we wrap up our current module, take a little break, and then begin again on 1 September.

Most of my regular crew are returning (🥹) but I’ve got room for a few new humans too.

If you’ve been wondering why I teach this way, this is probably the best explanation I can give you. ❤️

Next six weeks begin 1 September
Tue + Thu · 6.30pm

Details via my website, or send me a message if you’d like to talk it through.

If you’ve been quietly watching my classes from over there for a while… 👀

I should probably tell you something.

You do not need to get better at yoga before you come here.

You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need to know what the poses are called. You don’t need the right clothes.

And you definitely don’t need to wait until you feel confident enough to walk through the door.

Most new people don’t. 😂

I think one of the things I’m proudest of about this little studio is how quickly that feeling seems to disappear.

We’re a small bunch. Mostly midlife women, a few very excellent blokes, a mixture of bodies and abilities, and nobody is particularly interested in what anyone else can or can’t do.

We wobble. We learn. We repeat things. We occasionally look at me like I’ve completely lost my mind. We laugh a lot.

And slowly, over six weeks, things that seemed completely baffling at the beginning start to make a little more sense.

That’s why I teach in modules.

Not because I want yoga to become another commitment hanging over your head, but because I want enough time to actually teach you.

Our next six weeks begin 1 September.

I teach just two classes — Tuesday + Thursday at 6.30pm — and most of my current crew are coming back, so there are only a handful of places available.

If you’ve been thinking maybe one day…

Maybe this is your day. ❤️

Details are on my website, or just send me a message. I’m very happy to help you work out whether this is actually right for you.
