New article: This Was a Lot Harder Than Expected.

It’s late ā° I’m tired 😓 We’ve been in the tiny home for two months and somehow I’m still dealing with builders, tiles, cushions, kennels, Airbnbs and a never-ending to-do list.

This article was written somewhere in the middle of all that.

Why we don’t have a washing machine inside our tiny home.

It surprises a lot of people, but it was a conscious choice.

We actually have two laundry systems.

The first is a small caravan washer that sits outside the tiny home. The second is our local laundromat, which we use when the weather isn’t cooperating. With all the rain lately, drying clothes outside has been almost impossible, so we’ve been spending around $32 a week if we make two laundromat trips.

When we get a few dry days, we use the caravan washer and clothesline instead.

The biggest reason we chose not to install a washing machine inside was moisture.

Tiny homes have a much smaller air volume than a standard house, and I was concerned about introducing extra humidity and increasing the risk of mould over time. For me, the convenience wasn’t worth potentially compromising the home.

I also spent quite a bit of time researching the vibration and movement washing machines can create in tiny homes and decided I’d rather avoid it altogether.

Not that the laundromat is always glamorous.

Loading baskets, wrangling two toddlers, folding clothes in public… it can feel like a whole afternoon.

But somewhere along the way, we’ve realised these slower tasks have become part of our lifestyle.

The boys help load machines, sort clothes, and learn that caring for a home takes time.

It’s not always convenient.

But slow living rarely is.

That said… we are looking forward to creating a more permanent outdoor laundry setup once our deck is finished.

Tiny living is always evolving.

Would you rather have a washing machine inside your tiny home or outside? šŸ‘‡

Sometimes I wonder how many moments in life I rushed through because I was always focused on the next thing.

The next goal
The next problem to solve
The next version of life that would finally make me feel ā€œsettled.ā€

But lately, I’ve realised somethingā€¦āœØāœØāœØ

This season I’m living right now is one I once wished for during harder seasons of life.

And learning how to actually receive it has been its own journey.

šŸ¤ŽNot perfectly
šŸ¤ŽNot romantically
šŸ¤ŽJust slowly

Today’s Substack piece is a reflection on that feeling … learning how to appreciate what’s already in front of you before life moves onto the next chapter again.
