We are a family friendly club that teaches it's students in a non threatening environment.

The IKO Group Australia headed by Shihan Theodore Tsanidis 8th Dan was formed in 1972 as an organisation teaching Goju-Ryu Karate to both males and females of all ages. Since inception, the IKO Group Australia has been affiliated with the IKO Group Japan and has taught hundreds of students traditional and authentic Budo (Japanese martial arts) as passed down through the centuries. ๐Ÿฅ‹ BLACK BELT TRAINING โ€“ STRONG BASICS, DEEPER UNDERSTANDING ๐Ÿฅ‹

Another focused and rewarding black belt training session at IKO Goju Ryu Karate-Do Australia, concentrating on the foundations of traditional karate: Kihon, Kata and Bunkai.

Under the guidance of our Head Instructor Kon Shihan, together with John Shihan, Neil Shihan and Gary Sensei, the class worked in detail on basic techniques, strong stances, correct posture, balance, timing, breathing, power and precision.

The training continued with detailed Kata practice, followed by Bunkai, exploring the meaning and practical application behind each movement. Understanding how every block, strike and stance can be applied is an important part of developing complete and effective karate.

We were also very proud to see our junior black belts, Jana and Saada, training with excellent concentration, discipline and commitment alongside their senior instructors.

A black belt does not mean the basics are finishedโ€”it means we return to them with greater knowledge and a deeper understanding.

Strong Kihon builds strong Kata. Strong Kata develops effective Bunkai. ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿฅ‹

๐Ÿฅ‹ OSU! A HISTORIC MILESTONE ๐Ÿฅ‹
Please join us in honouring Hanshi Theodore Tsanidis on his promotion to 10th Dan, awarded at Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan.

Over 50 years of unbroken dedication to traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu karate โ€” five decades of discipline, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of mastery. From white belt to the highest rank a karateka can achieve, Hanshi's journey embodies everything our art stands for: respect, perseverance, and the true spirit of Budo.

This achievement doesn't just honour one man โ€” it honours the entire lineage from Chojun Miyagi to Gonnohyoue Yamamoto carried forward through generations of dedicated instructors, all the way to our dojo floors here in Sydney.

Congratulations, Hanshi. Your example inspires every one of us training under the IKO Goju Ryu banner to keep striving, keep learning, and keep honouring the traditions passed down to us.

๐Ÿฅ‹ Balance in Karate-Do ๐Ÿฅ‹
At our IKO Goju Ryu Karate-Do Dojo, we focused on one of the most important foundations of karate: balance.
With Neil Shihan guiding the class, students worked on developing balance not only in their stances and movement, but also in their focus, control, and spirit.
In Goju Ryu, balance is more than staying steady on your feet. It is about finding harmony between strength and softness, speed and control, body and mind.
A great session with strong effort from everyone on the floor. Well done, karateka! ๐Ÿ‘Š
Train hard. Stay focused. Keep balanced.

These sessions are a reminder that the black belt journey is not the end, but the beginning of deeper learning, greater responsibility, and continued growth in the true spirit of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do.
Well done to all who trained with dedication and respect. Keep pushing forward with humility, strength, and perseverance.
