Tonight the girls 2023 season officially wrapped up with the Western Youth League presentation. With a giraffe feed, several hours to catch up and the presentation, it was a great finish to the year. Well done to the Dubbo Devils Football Academy organisers for a great evening.

Again a huge thank you to coach Matt for all his work with the girls, and manager Kerrie for keeping us organised throughout the season!

FROM THE COACH!

This year would not have been what it was for the girls without all the time and effort put in from their Super Coach Matt! Matt spent many hours and a week long trip away from his family to train, support and develop the girls into the female footballers they are becoming. Their progress from the Parkes gala day to their efforts at Kanga Cup, shows just how much the girls have learnt in only a few short months. When asking Matt the how and why, this was his response -

1. What made your decision to take on the Under 10 girls this season?
Having the U16 boys this year I was keen to start my WYL coaching with an U10 team.

2. What was your initial goal for the girls, given it was the first rep season they were playing?
My initial goal was to build a team and improve each player's individual skills.

3. What was your biggest challenge this year?
Being the first season coaching girls I needed to remember they learn differently from boys. I needed to explain things in a different way.

4. What was your biggest highlight this year?
All 14 players wanting to come to Kanga Cup and winning this tournament in our first year.

5. What is you top tip for coaching young female football players?
Female footballers need to know why they need to do something not just how to do it.

6. What are your visions for 2024?
To continue on where we left off, Winning the WYL competition and playing at Cup level at Kanga Cup

7. If you could leave one last message for the girls what would it be?
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
