NWBR AGM | 2026

NWBR recently held its Annual General Meeting, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the club.

After two terrific years as President, Lucy Taylor has stepped down from the role. We sincerely thank Lucy for her tireless work, dedication and commitment to NWBR.

Lucy will also hold a special place in the clubโ€™s history as NWBRโ€™s first-ever female President. Congratulations Lucy, and thank you for everything you have contributed to the club. ๐Ÿ‘

Taking on the role of President is Jy Johannesen. A multiple State Champion, Jyโ€™s focus for the coming year will be on coaching, junior development and rebuilding club participation as NWBR enters an important period of growth.

Bo Ellis will support Jy in this area, while Toby Ray continues as Vice President, Richard Ramsden as Secretary and Trent Knowles as Treasurer. Zak Noble will also continue to support the club on the committee.

Looking back

The past year has seen some great achievements across the club:

๐Ÿ„ Surf Groms and Learn to Surf programs were delivered at Low Head and Marrawah, with strong participation and excellent community interest.

๐ŸŽ“ Bo Ellis completed the Surfing Australia RISE coaching pathway, adding another accredited coach to the club.

๐Ÿ† NWBR successfully supported the 2026 West Coast Classic in partnership with Surfing Tasmania, providing judges, photographers, competitors and catering across two competition days.

๐ŸŒŠ The 2025 Phantom Coast Classic was successfully delivered, attracting clubs from across Tasmania and strong support from Surfing Tasmania and our sponsors.

๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ NWBR also fielded a strong team at the ABB State Round at Scamander.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fundraising continued through merchandise sales, while our BBQ trailer and event equipment remain ready for future club activities.

A huge thank you to our valued sponsors for their ongoing support:

Buttons Brewing | Little Sisters General Store | Twenty Five Nine | SeaFM/7BU | Red Herring | Maximum Solar | High Noon Zinc

Looking ahead

The focus for NWBR is now on rebuilding membership, growing our volunteer base and strengthening junior development.

Working alongside Surfing Tasmania, Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club and our local business and community partners, we are focused on building a strong and sustainable foundation for the future.

For this reason, larger events such as the Phantom Coast Classic and Surf into Summer will be paused while we rebuild the clubโ€™s capacity.

A massive thank you to the dedicated skeleton crew who have continued to champion NWBR, secure sponsorship, run activities, promote the club and keep the momentum going.

There is a great group of people behind NWBR, and weโ€™re excited about what the next chapter holds.

๐Ÿ•• 6:00pm (Come earlier for a drink and a chat!)

As an officially affiliated Surfing Tasmania Boardriders Club, North West Board Riders is committed to growing surfing opportunities on the North West Coastโ€”but we need your help to make it happen.

This season weโ€™re aiming for:
๐Ÿ„ More junior surf development sessions
๐Ÿค A stronger volunteer and committee team
๐Ÿ”ฅ Competition training leading into the Australian Boardriders Battle State Qualifier at Scamander on 24 October
๐ŸŒŠ More opportunities for surfers of all ages and abilities to get involved.

Whether youโ€™re:
โœ”๏ธ Looking to learn to surf
โœ”๏ธ Wanting to improve your surfing
โœ”๏ธ Keen to help at events
โœ”๏ธ Interested in joining the committee
โœ”๏ธ Or simply passionate about seeing surfing thrive on the North West Coast...

Weโ€™d love to have you on board.

The Phantom Coast Classic will remain on hold and wonโ€™t be held this year until we can rebuild our volunteer base, so if youโ€™ve ever wanted to give back to the local surf community, this is your chance.

Every great Board Riders Club is powered by its members & volunteers! Come along, share your ideas, bond with like-minded people, and help us create an incredible season ahead.

See you at Penguin Beer Co! ๐Ÿป๐ŸŒŠ
