The Alley Entertainment Centre - Devonport

Building works on the front of the venue are now in full swing and already such a huge improvement! Newly skinned awning and lights are in! Onto the new entrance stairs and ramp next week. We are still open, entry is via the side entrance. Thank you for your patience while this work is taking place... it will certainly be worth it!

The Alley gives back to our community wherever we can and we never ask for anything in return.
However today we are asking for your help. These two wonderful people have been amazing friends to us over many years, we wouldn't be where we are without their friendship and support.
If you can give something no matter how small, it will make a huge difference to a family that needs it right now. We also understand that not everyone can afford to give back as things are tough enough, we completely understand that too.
However if you can help make their lives easier though Matt's treatment I know these two would be forever grateful and so would we!

As some of you may have seen or heard over the last couple of days, we have had to make the very difficult decision to suspend our weekly live music. The new awareness of the liability for a venue to administer superannuation for every artist that steps on our stage, and process every week is just not viable for a venue that is offering live music for free to its customers. Essentially from July 1 we are required to process and pay every artists superannuation each and every week as if they are an employee.

We have loved supporting all our amazing local artists over the last 3+ years. We thank each and everyone of them for working with our venue over that time. This decision takes away 50 gigs a year from the talented people which is heartbreaking. Let’s hope our government listens to the industry and makes change to get the music pumping again.

We’d like to be clear, we are 100% behind musicians being paid fairly for the work they do, and compensated for not only their performance on the night, but the rehearsals, the travel, and all the additional expenses associated with what they do week after week on and off the stage. It’s the government imposed administrative burden on venues that is killing live music. We hope discussion and ideas around how this can be changed will see live music back at the Alley in the not to distant future.
