Match report
Round 17 alfredton

We battled hard against a really tough pitcher all day and got off to a good start
They scored two runs off four hits and we answered straight back with three of our own to be up 3-2
We then tacked on another two with a homerun by Sammy
Unfortunately that was the end of our scoring with alfredton continuing to score every inning except the last to win 7-5
We got outhit 14 to 7 with a lot of balls just falling in front of fielders

Hits 7
Sam 2 homerun
Ryan 1 double
Aden 2
Bj 1 double
Ben 1 double

Pitching
Ben 5inn 14h 4ers
Ronan 1inn

Unfortunately that is us done for the season now with one game to go
Reminder vote count after the games are played Saturday

2’s loss 14-4 vs Alfredton.

We struggled in the field and they scored runs in every innings, 14 in 5 many of them unearned.
We got 4 runs in the 3rd and 4th, looking more competitive with the bats second time through the line up, hits on the day for
Liam 2
Marc Crawf Hickey and Peter
Just one game to go let’s finish with a win!! The beers will taste better at the vote count if we do!!

3’s lost 5-11 vs Research
This week we were up against a side we knew we should have been competitive against, and for all but 1 innings this was the case.
Dan started again for us this week and with their first 3 batters getting hits our infield was working well to limit the scoring, with only 1 run on the board. Our batters then struggled with a very, very slow looping pitcher, and we couldn’t score any back.
The second innings for both teams was very short, only 4 batters each and again our infield was looking good making every play count. Unfortunately, only Chris managed to get a hit, with his first double for the season. Into the third innings, we continued to hold them well, although they did add another 2 to their score, but we got our bats going to level – this time with Paul, Danni and Dan (double) getting hits.
Into the 4th and unfortunately their batters found their range against Dan, and scored seven without us making a dent, and we were only able to add 1 thanks to Chris. A change of pitching to Mick slowed their momentum, with only 1 scored in the 5th, but we went 3 up and down, before keeping them scoreless in the 6th (including a dribbler along the first baseline that was foul until just in front of the bag and then rolled in), and we added one more from another hit to Danni.
Multiple hits to Dan, Danni & Chris, and a huge improvement in particular from our infielders this week.

Get on down to the club this Saturday night for the count, usually a great night recapping the season and finding the vote winners for each team.

Match report
Round 16 diamond creek

With our season on the line we looked to Ben for his first pitching of the season and he looked great throwing everything for strikes and the field making awesome plays all day
We were shutout for the first 4 inns and only getting hits when we had two out
Ronan replaced Ben after two innings and looked really good for two getting them 6 up 6 down
In the fifth we loaded the bases with some really good bunts scoring three
Ronan started the fifth but with two hits and a walk later had to make way for Glenn to come in
We were able to tie the game in the seventh and in the eighth Lough was able to get a hamstring damaging single
Chaq came on to run and then Ben bunted Jase single and with one out we had the runners on the corners
Sammy was up and with a well executed safety squeeze we went up one going into the last
Higgo took the ball and with the batter managing to get on we turned the double play on the next hitter to be one out away
Unfortunately we hit the next batter he then stole second and with two strikes on the hitter he managed to put one through the hole between short and third to score the tying run
We got the last out on a come backer to the pitcher to end the game

Hits 15
Jason 3
Sam 1
Mitch 3
Aden 3 double
Ryan 1
Ronan 1
Lough 2
Ben 1

Pitching
Ben 2inn 2h 0er
Ronan 2inn 2h 3ers
Glenn 3inn 4h 1er
Higgo 1inn 2h 1er

The draw doesn’t end our season as it is only one game behind now with two to play

2’s lost 13-12 Ck
A great start with Michael Dale hitting a three run bomb in the first they got a couple back and we led 4-2 after 1.
We put everyone to the plate in the second and scored another 5 with walks to Cooper and Liam and hits to Chaq, Crawf and Livo, 3 up 3 down with Crawf taking a nice catch at LF had us up 9-2.
We then went 3 up 3 down with a new pitcher and they added 5 with some good hitting, 9-7.
No score in the 4th, we added 1 on a bases loaded walk to Chaq and then left them loaded as Cooper and Hickey made outs they scored 3 unearned runs on a dropped catch at 2B and two dropped third strikes making it 10all.
We scored 2 in the 6th with Rowan coming up big with one out scoring Livo and moving Mick to third who then scored when Pete grounded out to third. They got the first two on and had runners at 2nd and 3rd no outs we got an out on a come backer to Hickey 1 out runners still 2nd and 3rd, a walk loaded them up. Then a ground ball to short gave us an opportunity to win with the first out at second unfortunately the throw to first went wide (probably should have been runners interference) and the scores were level, then a dropped catch at centre gave them the win

3rds lost 1-21 vs Port Melbourne
Coming up a side that is clearly far too good for E grade (most of their squad played against either our 1sts or 2nds last year) was always going to be a big ask.
We started well in the first, Chad leading off with a good hit to left field, and Mick straight up the centre meant we got 1 on the board. Dan got the start, and unfortunately, we couldn’t make a dent in their lineup, only getting one out before the 7-run rule kicked in. In the second innings we didn’t look like scoring, and Alayna recording the only hit, but we steadied a little in the field and just gave up 3 runs.
The third innings was 3 up, three down, in 8 pitches and they added another 3. In the 4th we had bases loaded, thanks to Davo recording his first hit since being injured, but couldn’t add to our score. Conscious of managing the workload for Dan, we made a change to Mick, and we quickly had them 2 out and 2 strikes but unfortunately hit one batter and walked the next and before long they had added 7. The fifth innings again had loaded bases, but a double play to end the innings denied an opportunity to add to the score. We then went out to finish of the 5th innings and try and take the moral victory 🤣 and managed to get the job done in 9 pitches (although they did still add another run), with a well taken catch by Davo at first, a long catch that hung nicely for Lily at right field and one by Mick.

Weekend Results 1/8

Match report Firsts
Round 15 Nth Coburg

Bj got the start and came under fire straight away with a double and two home runs setting the tone for Coburg
They scored another two in the second to be up 0-5
We came back nicely with two in the second and four in the third to be up 6-5
Both teams traded runs in the fourth
In the fifth they created a run by singling and stealing bases with Ronan getting three grounders to end the inning 7all
In the sixth we turned to Higgo and after hitting the first batter and the next one singling
We managed to get the runner out trying to steal and then a strikeout to have two out
But things didn’t go our way and we threw the next one away to be down three going into the final half of the inning
Bang Mitch got us off to the hottest starts with a homerun but with a runner on third and one out two strikeouts ended the game
They killed us on the base paths all day scoring seven runs off just good hard running
We could take a lesson on how to create extra opportunities

Hits 9
Mitch 3 home run double
Aden 3 2doubles
Glenn 2
Bj 1 double

Pitching
Bj 2inns 5h 4ers
Ronan 3inns 3h 2ers
Aden 1inn 3h 0er

2’s vs Nth Coburg
Loss 11-1

Lough pitched a blinder as they scored 5 runs in 6 innings with most of their runs due only to their speed on the bases as they stole a heap through the day.
The next most pleasing part of the day was a big lift in our fielding from the previous week.
Unfortunately we could not get anything going with the bats. Only scoring when Rhino after being hit by pitch gave them a bit of their own medicine back stealing 2nd and third base then Lough drove him in.
We got through 8 innings!! But were outclassed by a young and slick outfit.
Hits on the day to Ryan Lough Liam and Rowan.

3rds Lost 8-15 vs Knox
What a difference a week makes!
With only 8 players, we performed well against a strong Knox side that is well on the way to finals. After shouldering the bulk of the pitching workload so far this year, we decided to give Dan’s arm a break, and the original plan was to use Mitch Cron as starting pitcher – this was sent out the window as he earned a promotion to the 2’s. Instead, Mick took the mound and after a shaky start walking the first 2 batters, started to give the field something to work with, limiting Knox to 4 in the first.
Dan then continued his good form with the bat, getting our only hit for the first innings, and then we managed to keep Knox to only one more run in the 2nd innings. Our bats came out firing in the 2nd, adding 3 runs with hits to Chris, Kobi and Marc (plus a well earned walk from Lily) to keep us right in the game.
The third innings saw Knox pull away, adding 5 runs, and it was tough with only 2 in the outfield, with balls regularly falling into the gaps. We then failed to add any runs, with 3 consecutive strike outs. A reset for the top of the 4th, and we managed to hold them to only 2 more runs and then added 2 back, courtesy of hits from Marc, Chad, Dan and Mick.
The 5th innings had us starting to slip, before consecutive strike outs from Mick, and a play at 2nd from Lily held them to only 3 more runs, and we then managed to add 3 more of our own with Marc, Chad, Dan (double), and Kobi all getting hits.
