Game Day
Dry under foot.

What a great win today on a beautiful sunny day at home.
We started the day with lots of energy. Things that the coaches were looking at were composure with the footy, manning up and effort a quarter at a time. Everyone had their role to play. With a strong line up today and some help from the under 12s we were able to get a close good start. The senior players stood up and made sure that there were moving the footy directly into our forward line to give plenty of opportunities. What was most pleasing was that the back line was strong all day. Tackling was improved too. There was also great movement and composure when we had the ball in hand. Everyone contributed today and brought effort, with some courageous efforts. We moved a few players around today to effectively help us each quarter and they stood up after pressure from the opposition today. Great skills and respect was witnessed today which shows the learning across the team. Thank you for everyone involved and let’s build to our next game with the confidence that we can compete and win

Congratulations to Coburg JFC Under 16s players Archie, Christian and Mohamed, who will be representing our club in the Calder Cannons U18 trial game tomorrow at Highgate Reserve!

This is a fantastic opportunity, and we’re incredibly proud of all three boys. We wish them the very best of luck and can’t wait to see them out there.

U16 Match Report

The U16s had a home game, which was a VFL curtain raiser fixture against Hillside at Barry Plant City Oval. It was to be a significant game with both Archie and Mohamed playing one hundred games each.

Hillside impressed in our first encounter this season. So the coaches’ directives were to gain territory early and deny the opposition.

Hillside had made it clear early they had come to play, displaying physicality and working well as a team. The first half was a very even contest, as was the third quarter.

The U16 Lions steeled themselves for a big final quarter and with some hard working forward targets in place, the U16 Lions were able to pull away in the final part of the last quarter to run out winners by two goals and consolidate their position on top of the ladder. As well as displaying the ability to get the win although not playing to our full capabilities. Still plenty to work on lads, let’s all get along to training and keep learning, making sure we are always improving as a team.

The Coburg U12s spent a week learning from a tough encounter last weekend. And today they showed that they can bounce back hard.
Today our Lions were hosted by a proud Merrifield team at their excellent facilities. The hosts came out firing and scored quickly, but this must have ignited a spark in our players. Coburg fired up and this flame burnt bright throughout the rest of the game.
Spectators were treated to speccies, intercept marks and thrilling passages. Coburg seared through the midfield and scored into the breeze, then capitalised further and scored with the breeze in the next quarter. Our goalkickers were Thomas C, Lenny, Angus, Tom M, Nate, Owen, Stanley, Seb, Isaac, two to Jem, and superbly one for Willow to celebrate her 50th game. Alex and Paddy added minor scores to their invaluable midfield contributions.
Intercept marks and saves by Aidan, Elias and Sasha ensured Coburg dominated the scoreboard. Darcy, Ben, Max, Freddy and George dived fearlessly into tough contest and swift transitions that fed the ball back up the field for our forwards to do their part.
The end score of Merrifield 2.1.13 to Coburg 12.11.83 was a gratification of the hard work that Coburg did throughout the week, and of the individual efforts that each and every player put in today.
