Overnight, UWA judo club and Australian representative Kaian Kelly competed in the Cadet World Judo Championships in Ecuador, where the world's best cadets are on stage.

Kaian had a first round win against his Argentinian opponent. Kaian controlled the grips and pace from the start with constant strong attacks, eventually scoring an ippon with ashi-guruma.

In the next round, Kaian came up against a Mongolian. The Mongolian opponent scored first with a wazari. Putting on the pressure, Kaian attacked relentlessly to even the score with strong attacks. Kaian managed to throw with a seoi nage, however not enough to get his opponent onto his back, for yuko. After his seoi on the ground, Kain was then pinned for ippon by the Mongolian, ending this campaign.

Congratulations to Kaian on his effort and performance. Kaian fought hard and made the club and his family proud. He continues to gain more international competition experience and further his judo development.
