Cardio alone stops being enough in perimenopause. Here's why 👇

As oestrogen declines, insulin sensitivity tends to drop too. This makes it easier to store fat and harder to access it for energy. That's physiology, not a motivation problem.

Muscle mass is one of the biggest levers you have over blood sugar management. Less muscle = less capacity to manage it well. Muscle naturally declines with age unless you're actively training to keep it.

At the same time, that same drop in oestrogen speeds up bone loss and walking-based cardio doesn't put enough load through your bones to offset it.

Strength training does both jobs at once: builds the muscle, loads the bone. Cardio on its own does neither.

That's why our programs for this stage of life are built around resistance training first. 🩵

"I'm doing everything I always have — why isn't it working?" 🩺

If you're in perimenopause, this isn't in your head.

Declining oestrogen changes how your body manages blood sugar, stores fat, and maintains bone density — all at once. Cardio alone doesn't fully address any of that, but strength training does, because it builds the muscle that drives blood sugar management AND loads the bone that cardio can't.

This is exactly why our programs for women in this phase prioritise resistance training as the foundation, not an extra.
