Why this one is special to me.

The story behind the naming.

FOREVER MARIA.

When we bought the Russian Revolution x Better Reflection filly home to Hannover Lodge from the Magic Millions sales, they gave her the stable name Maria.

It was simple , it suited - and none of us knew yet how much that name would come to mean.

On the 14th July . I lost my mother Maria.

Not long after that it came time for the ownership group to settle for a race-name.

Twenty-One names went into contention - one of the owners put forward “FOREVER MARIA” .. (in honour of my mum) … and the group voted for it.

The filly had already carried an echo of mums name from the day she arrived at the property.

To watch the group land on FOREVER MARIA out of all the options in front of them, turning a stable name into something permanent - a filly who will carry my mothers name onto the track, every start , for as long as she races is special.

That’s why FOREVER MARIA is more than a name to me..

Today we have a double at Newcastle Racecourse on the Beaumont track , with firstly Magatama contesting race number 3. She is our little Mighty Mouse but has a heart of a lion. Trainer Angela Davies is happy the way she has come through her last race and we have kept Andrew Gibbons onboard to steer her around once again.

We then go to race 6 where Capri Racing & Syndication will be represented by Divine Secrets. Divine Secrets was extremely unlucky not to take the money last start after being beaten by a $61 horse, so she will be looking to go one better today. The Snowden Racing have also been happy with this girl since her last start and today we have appointed Kerrin McEvoy to be the pilot.

Had the favourite covered but not the long-shot at fixed odds of $61.

Divine Secrets comes back for her first start this prep only to get done by 0.9 lengths by an outsider at ridiculous odds.

Not her day today but she wasn’t far off.

After a nice break Divine Secrets returns to the races at Newcastle Racecourse to contest race number 7.

She has been training well and trainer Snowden Racing could not be happier with her. We have elected gun jockey Chad Schofield to steer her around the track today ..
