First things first, apologies to all for the lack of updates over the last month or so. The pages admin has been indisposed for a while, however we're back online as of now.

Saturday the 29th September saw a fantastic turn out of over 30 shooters across numerous clubs shooting at our longest distance of 900 yards.

Conditions were a mixed bag as although the wind was not doing much, mirage was on full display early on before easing later in the afternoon.

Target Rifle, F-Standard, F-Open and Sporter/Hunter class were all well represented with a number of excellent scores posted. Sporter/Hunter in particular had a number of 50.10 and 50.9 stages posted and with our numbers recently increasing in this class, competition is starting to get fierce.

We had a very good turn out on Saturday the 11th for our 800 yards club shoot, with a large number of CRC and West Wallsend RC members making for a busy firing line. It was also good to see our some of our newest members officially competing in our club competition for the first time.

The wind was up and down most the afternoon with the mirage switching constantly, making conditions more difficult than they appeared at first glance. Despite this some good scores were put in across the board.

In F-Open David Piddington took top spot with an impressive double possible of 120.13, just beating out Jason Bennett and John Peters who were both only one shot behind.

Charlie Prebble continued his recent good form to take out first place in F-Standard with a solid 118.8, including an outstanding second stage possible of 60.5.

Competition was tight in Sporter/Hunter with Brett Read coming out on top with 100.13. One of our new members Dean Phillips was only one V-Bull behind with 100.12, providing some welcome competition in this class.

In Target Rifle Rob Avery shot clean (as usual) with 100.12. However the real highlight in TR was seeing one of our youngest members Charlotte Avery back in the fold. Shooting Target Rifle for the first time (off a bipod) she took to it like a duck on water with an outstanding 100.13. Well done Charlotte. Looks like Rob will be getting some serious competition also.

Great news for CRC from the NSWRA 150th Annual Open Championships held at ANZAC Range in Sydney last week. The event consisted of two competitions, the JG McIntosh and the NSWRA Kings championships.

The JG McIntosh is traditionally a two day event leading into the NSWRA Kings held straight after.

In the JG McIntosh, CRC's John Peters took 1st place in total Aggregate in F-Open for all the matches held over the two days.

In the NSWRA Kings, a number of Cessnock members took out numerous podium finishes in F-Open and Target Rifle in a number of the matches over the three days of competition. This especially bore fruit in the competitions overall aggregate standings in F-Open with Jason Bennett finishing in 5th place, John Peters in 6th and Jeremy Little in 11th.

However the absolute highlight was the indomitable John Peters taking out 1st place in the Grand Aggregate for the two competitions combined. This was an especially impressive as it required the endurance and concentration shooting over five days straight.

Congratulations to John and all the other CRC members that represented the club in the highest regard.

No range report this week as many of our regular members we're shooting elsewhere over the weekend.

This Saturday we'll be shooting at 600 yards and can expect a full compliment on the firing line.

More success for CRC with the Hunter Valley team winning the state district team event in Target Rifle at the NSWRA Champion of Champions event held in Sydney over the weekend.

The team consisted of a combination of CRC and West Wallsend RC members with John Maguire from West Wallsend providing invaluable support as the team captain and wind coach. These guys you'll see at the range every week putting a lot of rounds down range so it's good to see all their hard work paying off. Excellent work fellas.

Many of you may not realise that about half the shooters you see photographed in our weekly range reports are from West Wallsend RC so it was also good to see the two clubs working together to achieve a common goal. No doubt this is a theme that will continue into the future.

Finally, special shout out to CRC's Rob Avery who as well being a member of the winning Hunter Valley TR team, finished 7th in the individual Champion or Champions comp in Target Rifle. You do CRC proud Rob.

F Open - Final Stage Update:

Attention all members. This Sunday afternoons practise session has been cancelled due to a number of key club members being in Sydney over the weekend for the NSWRA Champion Of Champions comp.

Our usual Saturday club shoot is unaffected and will be proceeding as usual with the scheduled 500 yard shoot. Any visitors planning on visiting the club this Saturday are still more than welcome.

A very good number of shooters were in attendance yesterday for CRC's third 300 yards shoot of the year, including a number of visitors from other parts of the state which was good to see.

300 yards can be a tricky distance for some shooters as although its the shortest distance we shoot, the target is the smallest proportional to the distance shot. As a result it's very easy for a shot that felt good to slip out of the V ring and into the 5 if a slight wind change is missed or if your shooting technique isn't spot on.

Conditions on the day were mixed with a slight breeze as well as a constantly shifting mirage in the early afternoon requiring shooters to on their toes ready to make the required adjustments. Conditions calmed quite a bit later in afternoon making shooting much easier then.

In F-Open Jason Bennett continued his good form from his win last week at the Wingham OPM with an impressive 119.15, with one pesky flyer preventing a double possible. John Peters was only one point behind with 118.9.

Rob Avery was a little off his usual best, posting a 97.8 to take top spot in T-Rifle. As indicated earlier 300 yards can catch out evening the best.

In Sporter/Hunter Brett Read came out on top, shooting clean in PCO with 100.15, taking advantage of the calmer conditions later in the afternoon with a second stage 50.9.

However the absolute star performance of the day was from one of our younger members, Charlie Prebble shooting 118.11 to take first place in F-Standard, including a brilliant 60.8 in his second stage. Eddie Jones was not far behind in second place with a fine 118.8. Charlies second stage score of 60.8 would be right at home in any F-Open comp, and he shot it with the venerable 308 Win. Who knows what he'll be capable of if he gets an F-Open rig in his hands shooting a 6mm or 7mm hot rod.

Next Saturday CRC will be shooting 500 yards and hopefully we will see similar numbers in attendance as we did this week.

An awesome double win for CRC at the Wingham Rifle Club OPM that took place over the Kings Birthday weekend.

Rob Avery took out first place in Target Rifle A and Jason Bennett completed the clean sweep for Cessnock with first place in F-Open.

Congratulations to the both of you, for the wins and for all your recent hard work at the range to make them possible.

900 yards was on the cards today at CRC.

A good number of shooters were on the firing line putting their long range marksmanship to the test at our longest distance, with clear weather and a very mild breeze making for a good day of shooting.

It was one of those days where the wind flags were not telling anything and shooters instead had to rely primarily on the mirage.

In F-Open John Peters took first place with a clean 120.10, with Jason Bennett right on his heels with 119.11.

Charlie Prebble continued his good form from last week in F-Standard, taking top spot again with a solid 118.7.

In Sporter/Hunter Brett Read was running solo, shooting clean again with 100.16.

Many of our other regular shooters spent their time on the firing line doing load development in preparation for some upcoming prize meets.

Next Saturday will be a practise shoot only due to the Kings Birthday long weekend. Distance to be shot to be determined on the day by the attendees.

Finally, the club has recommenced accepting P650 attendances for anyone wanting to give long range shooting a try but doesn't have a fi****ms licence yet. Enquiries can be made through this page or through our website.
