Carss Cottage Museum is open tomorrow, 6 September. All welcome, especially Dads for Fathers’ Day. Check out our latest acquisition, wedding dress and veil, donated by a local family. We love it. Children free, adults $5.

Carss Cottage Museum will be open tomorrow, Sunday 30 August from 1pm - 4pm. Our volunteers love visitors so do come along. Children free, adults only $5 to explore our fascinating local history. There is an added attraction this week. We have installed a free library near the entrance to the Cottage. It has been built by one of our volunteers from gifted and recycled wood and we hope you will make good use of it.

Our next general meeting at the School of Arts is on Thursday 10 September starting at 2 pm. This month we have our own Beverley Earnshaw OAM, always one of our most popular speakers, talking about A Century of Ceramics. This is the history of Mashmans Pottery at Kingsgrove which operated for 100 years under the one family. It was a terracotta yard supplying building materials to the construction industry and flower pots to the nursery trade. However in the 1990s it extended its range to include ornamental gardenware, statuary and domestic items and its customer base became international. It was the last pottery in NSW employing traditional methods. Progress eventually overtook it and it closed in 2010.
We are a friendly organisation and everyone is welcome. $5 entry and we give you one of our home cooked afternoon teas. No need to book. Inquiries to Gill 0439 67 843.

A Hop, A Skip & a Jump: The History of Australian Childhood Amusements. That is the title of the presentation to be given by Warren Fahey AM, well known cultural historian, broadcaster, author of 30 books, all round entertainer. He will press your nostalgia button and make you remember the magic and make believe of your younger days. All welcome, no need to book. $5 entry includes our home cooked afternoon tea.

The next event at Carss Cottage is on Monday 27 July starting at 10 am. Morning tea outside in our courtyard ( weather permitting) then listen to Mark Skelsey, author, speak about the Victoria Street scandals - A View to Die for.
Carss Cottage is at 80 Carwar Ave, parking available. All welcome. Entry is only $5.00. You can also take the opportunity to look inside the Museum after the talk - check out new acquisitions and our current exhibition on Fashion trends through the ages.

The next Monday at the Museum is on Monday 25 May starting at 10 am at Carss Cottage Museum.
After morning tea, our speaker will be Jimmy Thomson on The First Anzacs. These were the sappers ( combat engineers) and their contribution was accidentally written out of official records so went unrecorded for 100 years.
