The SPOKEN bicycle show, held at Carriage Works in Sydney for the second year from June 19th-21st, also saw the second time that Shimano held a People’s Choice Award poll. The inaugural winner from 2025, Baum Cycles, put on a good showing; however, this year’s Shimano People’s Choice Award was given to Chris and the team at Mooro Cycles.
Mooro is one of the names for the Perth region, in the local Noongar language. Established in 2016, Mooro Cycles is a small Perth-based bespoke bicycle manufacturer specialising in gravel, road and mountain bikes constructed of titanium tubing. Geometry and frame finishes are tailored to the customer’s requirements and engineered to exceed their expectations.
The Shimano People’s Choice Award-winning bike is Mooro’s performance gravel Kwibidgi model - which translates to ‘escape’ in the Noongar language - incorporating neat internal cable routing, a T47 bottom bracket and 3D-printed dropouts into a double butted 3Al/2.5V, Grade 9 titanium frame. Shimano GRX Dual Control levers mated to an XTR RD-M9250 mid-cage rear derailleur and an XTR 9-45 cassette were chosen as the drivetrain components.
Highlights of the frame are a unique to Mooro ‘MC Bronze’ ceracote, the ‘handmade in Australia’ badge on the drive-side and the Wagyl on the rear disc-side 3D-printed dropout, signifying a snake in the Dreamtime winding its way down the Perth escarpment, making rivers and streams, giving people a place to live and be nourished.
The attention to detail, thoughtful construction and unique finishes are a testament to Chris and his team’s determination over the last decade - taking on their own ideas, customer input and cues from the environment around them to produce outstanding bicycles. It’s no wonder the Shimano People’s Choice Award at Spoken 2026 was chosen by the public and awarded to Mooro Cycles and their beautiful Kwibidgi.
Included in the gallery are some pictures of other builds by , including the race-winning bike of Otto Albert, used in the recent Three Peaks Bike Race (EU) - traversing from Vienna through Austria, Slovenia, Italy, and southern France into Spain, finishing in Barcelona.
