They weren’t short of jobs to do…..

The exact number of jerrycans of fuel that followed the Allied push across Europe in the summer and autumn of 1944 will probably never be known. Estimates range from about 19 million to as many as 32 million.

In theory, frontline troops were supposed to return empty cans for reuse, but in reality, many were just discarded where they were emptied, leading to huge losses.

In October 1944 alone, over 3.5 million jerrycans vanished from military inventories. To curb the waste, civilians were offered cash for returning empties, though judging by the number of wartime-dated cans still for sale in Normandy today, plenty never made it back into service.

I have had this a few years maybe it’s time take on the beast. 🤔

Interesting, Panther going to the Cairns Armour Museum…..

In 1944, deep in the chaos of Normandy, German Panther Tank No. 425 rolled into history as one of the most feared armored machines of WWII — and today, it still carries that haunting legacy. Built with sloped armor and a deadly 75mm gun, the Panther was nearly unstoppable from the front, yet vulnerable on its sides. This very tank later passed through French service, target ranges, and museums before becoming part of the famous Cadman Collection in England. Now it has been sold and is undergoing restoration before being shipped all the way to the Australian Armour and Combat Museum in Cairns. What secrets still remain hidden beneath its steel scars?

My previous work environment. I enjoyed very much working on the same Wright Cyclone engines as the B17 bomber of WW2 fame. We rarely got this many on the”line” in one go.
