Regional Results - Weeks 5 & 6 Term 3

During weeks 5 and 6 of Term 3 SSACT hosted the regional Track and Field carnival for both primary and Secondary Students.

Tuesday 18th August saw the first of our carnivals take place at AIS for the Belconnen regional carnival. With over 900 students participating on the day SSACT would like to say thank you to all participants for a wonderful day. SSACT would also like to acknowledge the effort put in by the day’s event coordinator Peter Frankcom (Evatt Primary School) and all of the regions volunteers who were able to assist on the individual events. We would also like to thank students from Lake Ginninderra College and Hawker College for assisting the running of the event.

Only two short days later on Thursday 20th August was the South/Weston Track and Field regional carnival held at Woden Park. With just short of 900 Students participating and the sun shining the South/Weston carnival was a very successful day. SSACT would like to thank the event Coordinator for the day Brigette Carlile (Canberra Grammar School) and all of the volunteers who assisted in the running of this event. We also want to say a special thank you to the Canberra Grammar School Secondary and College students for taking time out of their schedule to assist the running of the day.

Week 6 Monday 24th August we were back out at Woden Park for the Primary Tuggeranong regional Track and Field Carnival where looking at the weather radar for the week managed to avoid a significant downpour and a sunny day awaited us. With just over 850 Students participating the Tuggeranong Regional Carnival was a successfully ran day. SSACT would like to thank the event coordinator for the day Brooke Wood (Taylor Primary School) as well as all of the volunteers who supported the running of the carnival. A special mention to the students from St Mary Mackillop College who gave up some of there time to assist in the running of the day.

With the eventual downpour that happened on Tuesday 25th August the Secondary South Track and Field Carnival on Wednesday 26th August looked in doubt, but with the most of the heavy rain subsiding and the way Woden Park and the track dries the Secondary South Carnival went ahead as planned. 350 students braved the overnight rain in what would eventually lead to a sunny day and participated in their events. SSACT would like to thank both Lindsey Pike (Alfred Deakin High School) and Ross Dennis (Evelyn Scott School) for coordinating the event for the South School’s. We would also like to thank all the volunteers who assisted us on the day with a special mention to the Erindale College Students who assisted with the running of the day.

We still currently have a few more Regional Carnivals in week 7 before the ACT carnivals in week 8 and week 10.

One final thank you from SSACT with Track and Field being such a massive sport on our calendar we cannot possibly run these events without the support from Capital Athletics and the work they do behind the scenes to prepare for events like these, so SSACT thanks all the volunteers and staff from Capital Athletics for all their continued support in helping us run these carnival days for students across the ACT.
