No Rest For The Wicked

First one-on-one or week of classes complimentary. To know one, you must know the other. Light and dark, good and evil.

Welcome to Dark Carnival

Duality, the potential for two states to exist in one, is everywhere. Just look at ‘Martial Art’;
‘Martial’ is the physical pursuit, ‘Art’ the mental and emotional endeavor. Unfortunately this is lost in most modern ‘Martial Arts’ where martial pursuit and excellence are the sole focus, or on the flipside, the theoretical application of the art is never put to the martia

Wicked hitting the mats tonight with Coach Nguyen (probably butchered the spelling...apologies) SILVERBACK MMA VN 🦍

Solid tech, drilling out feints and setting up a nice sweep.
Love jumping into a class and being reminded about how much of the game I have learned...but don't use or plain forgot.
Finished with some play sparring, great energy all round.

Coach is actually a blue belt as well so we got a sneaky roll in too 😅

Thank you for having me!

It strikes me that there are some great parallels between life and crossing the road in Vietnam.

Life is the traffic.

The other side of the road is whatever goal or objective you have in mind.

If you wait for an opening, wait for it to be safe, to be more certain, you may be waiting a while, and there are no guarantees as traffic is endless.

If you do not respect the traffic - rush out recklessly - you "might" get to the other side, chances are not great though...

You are left with your eyes on the prize. A strong respect for life and the duality of its potential (creation/destruction). The opportunity is everywhere if you would just back yourself.
Step off the curb.
Walk with certainty and calmness.
Because the traffic is eternal, it may ebb and flow, but it never stops.

Eyes on the prize.
Cross the road.

Just like home.
Except coconuts.
And it's lunchtime.
And it's hot.

Thank you SILVERBACK MMA VN 🦍 for letting me drop in and play with the crew.
Always good to hit the mats with people across the globe, share knowledge and learn a trick or 2.

See you at open mat :)

90 minutes compressed into 10.
You will hear me say this every....damn...time... because people still take umbrage to it.

Although there are no gradings in Muay Thai, Dark Carnival our Muay Thai program has gradings to give students a clear progression in what can be a very subjective developmental pathway.
Technically, start, train, fight, fight again, burnout, become a padholder and tuk tuk driver.
And that is not said disparagingly, it is just the sad reality in Thailand...anywho, lemme get off this soap box.

These awesome individuals trained up and in absence of a fight, were put through a physical, mental and emotional test.
Fitness S&C
Shadow tech
Padwork tech
Clinch tech
Sparring tech

It is not a case of show up and pass, it is a matter of do the work, demonstrate it on the day and pass.
We do fail individuals at grading.
But not this day :)
There were some close calls, but everyone worked their asses off and gave it their all for an awesome demonstration of their current skill and ability.

Super proud of the growth these individuals demonstrated and look forward to more!
And who knows....maybe a Dev day and maybe a fight...but until then...grading in November.

Kyle Bartlett-Jurd on CAPITAL COMBAT CLUB Pro Series.
What a roller coaster that was.
Opponent.
No opponent.
Opponent!
...no opponent
Opponent....
... ..... ...no opponent.

And then Riddlers Gym on short notice had an opponent. And what a banger it was.
We had a clear development plan for this fight. Less reliance on legs at range, develop the inside game and hold our ground.
And maaaaaaan did Kyle deliver.
His opponent was relentless over three rounds as well coming from Riddlers we knew this was going to be a good fight.
Kyle didn't come away with the win, but walked away with experience and the cut to prove it :)

I cannot put into words how proud I am of Kyle's discipline and dedication in camp was. It is rough not knowing whether you have a match or not, but he stayed the course and put everything we worked on into practice on the night.

Onwards and upwards as we play this game better and better.

Shout out to Capital Combat Club for putting on an amazing show as always. To all the officials and support crew. Nicely done.

As always, thank you to all of the DC Crew who came out to support or were watching online.

Onwards to October!!!

In reverse order...
CAPITAL COMBAT CLUB Dev day sunday 2nd August.
Awesome day for all of the DC athletes who jumped in.
First up, little Oli!
Our first child competitor for DC and what a show he put on, backing it up with the opportunity to go again 10 minutes later.
Kyle Bartlett-Jurd and I are so proud of you and your performance :)
Seth lilmoistyb0i jumped in for kick light, and talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Cardio was the winner here with Seth pushing through and grabbing the points in the closing 10 seconds.
Jacob Uhle up next for his debut K1 bout. After 3 rounds points went to his opponent but what a show of grit and development. Exactly what these days are for.
Kyle Webber rounded out the day for the DC crew, I threw the towel in at the closing stages of the third round as Kyle's opponent (southpaw) was dominating the outside line with some devastating check hook to cross. Despite this, Kyle showed some brilliant engagement over the rounds and in particular....remained calm. Now to develop the Muay Thai game so we can close the gap a bit easier ;)

Super proud of everyone and their efforts. The dedication and growth you all displayed in prep for this was wicked to watch.

Let's do it again in November!
Thanks to CAPITAL COMBAT CLUB and all the officials for making it happen.
