➡️ New data looking into wellbeing in high performance sport has reinforced Australia's commitment to creating the exceptional environments needed for athletes and coaches to win well in both sport and life.

The inaugural National Wellbeing Survey found more than 70% respondents were classified as thriving, with the majority of athletes, coaches and staff reporting positive levels of wellbeing.

While findings point to strong foundations, particularly in belonging, connection and safety, the survey also identifies that wellbeing isn't being experienced evenly, giving the system a strong baseline for targeted action and continued improvement.

Today marks 6 years to the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games!

A new competition has been created to help emerging Para athletes from across Australia realise their dream of wearing the green and gold at a home Paralympic Games.

Athletes from every state and territory will compete across 12 sports at the inaugural Para Futures Cup at AIS this October, as the nation accelerates preparations to develop a strong Paralympic cohort for Brisbane 2032 and beyond.

The Cup is being organised by the Australian Sports Commission and Australian Paralympic Team, with support from the National Institute Network. It is part of the Australian Government-funded Para Uplift, Australia’s largest ever effort to grow Para sport and create more opportunities and support for current and future Paralympians.

There's nothing better than having a tasty meal after training!

Last week the Women's Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence team joined us for a Chobani themed cooking session.

The athletes explored how a single ingredient can be used in a variety of ways to support fuelling and recovery. Together they prepared five different recipes, including a drink, dip, flatbread, breakfast option and a protein-based meal component 😋

There's a lot of science that goes into sticking the landing!!

We've been working with Gymnastics Australia and University of Canberra on a PHD project - we're using biomechanical testing to explore how gymnasts move, adapt and develop complex skills, to help shape the future of Australian gymnastics 🤸‍♀️

Helping two-time world champion diver Cassiel Rousseau better understand the mental skills behind elite performance is just one example of the impact of this year's AIS Athlete Education Scholarship (AES) program.

Delivered in partnership with former Australian Sports Commission Chair John Wylie AC's charity, the John and Myriam Wylie Foundation, the AIS Athlete Education Scholarship supports holistic athlete development by helping athletes not only prepare for life after sport but also enhance their performance whilst still competing.

For Rousseau, the scholarship is helping him pursue psychology studies while continuing to compete at the highest level in diving.

"Over the years, I have become increasingly aware of how mindset, resilience, focus and emotional regulation directly influence performance outcomes," Rousseau said.

"Studying psychology allows me to better understand this, both within myself and within others."

“The scholarship not only assists with education costs but also allows me to focus on ensuring I can continue representing my sport and my community at the highest level.”

Since 2020, the AIS Athlete Education Scholarship program has supported 278 athletes with more than $850,000 towards their education. With support from the John and Myriam Wylie Foundation continuing through to LA 2028, the program is helping athletes develop the skills and confidence to thrive both during and after their sporting careers.

We're working with Australian Athletics to help optimise 14-year-old T62 sprinter Alex's running blade setup 🏃‍♂️

Using 3D motion capture to measure how the blades affect his movements and force plates to measure the force he applies to the ground, we're gathering data that will inform further testing by our AIS engineers.
